grnmtnvt 18 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 I tried on the 16k skates at a LHS and really liked them but they didn't have the width I needed. I was looking around online and stumbled on the 11k skate on sale at a really good price. It's 80$ cheaper online than the 16k. Would there be much of a fit difference between the size I need in the 16K skate and the 11k skate. Is it worth it to get the 16k? Any thoughts would help. AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 The 11K is the previous top end model from Reebok that's been discontinued. It will be stiffer and offer better performance than the 16K, which is an upper-mid end skate equivalent to about the 8K from the 11k's lineup. The 16K will feature a narrower AA heel as opposed to the A from the 11K. The16K's Pump (bladder) will also be positioned further back and below that of the 11K, which is supposed to offer improved heel lock via inwards pressure on the ankles and more downward pressure along the achilles to the heel. Sizing should run the same.
grnmtnvt 18 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 I've read about durability issues with the 11k skate. Is there any word as to whether that has been fixed on the new line?
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 What durability issues?
grnmtnvt 18 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 Problems with the eyelets and tendon guards. I've seen a number of people complain about it on here and other sites.
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 Eyelets can be fixed. Tendon guard issues, I find is a combination of having a naturally flexible tendon guard (which is good for mobilitiy on the tail end of your stride) and people having the destructive habit of taking their skates off by pushing DOWN on the tendon guard. If you don't do that and have never had issues in that spot, I wouldn't worry.
sickwilly 37 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 I can only speak for my own experience with the 11ks, but mine have been great. No durability issues so far. I've had mine for a little less than a year (used about twice weekly for 9 months out of the year) and they have held up well. Aside from a few puck and skate marks, they look almost new. I take good care of them and dry them with the insoles out, etc. Great skate for the closeout price, IMO.
grnmtnvt 18 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 So overall, you guys think the 11k at 350$ is a better deal?
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 If you liked the service that the LHS gave you, I would go 16K.
grnmtnvt 18 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 Yea, I wanted to buy them there but they didn't have my size and it's the only store of any size within a couple hours. None of the other stores in the area carry much RBK.
sickwilly 37 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 I don't have a lot of familiarity with the 16k. If I needed skates, I'd be all over 11ks for that price, though.
cwlaw 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2013 Not to completely change gears here but I too am looking at a pair of 11 K's to replace my CCm U+ 09's. Is the sizing going to be consistent between the u+ 09 and the 11k? I wear a size 8 shoe but have the CCM skate in a size 6D and it fits me great. Thanks

ThanksI have worn 8.5E in all of the following. 11k, Vector 10.0, Externo e60, ZG130 and 1052s. I found that the same size worked for me in all of the models. I didn't notice much difference, if any in the way any of them fit my foot. I didn't heat mold any of them.
