Toe cap separated from outsole...

Recommended Posts

Just noticed this yesterday, it looks like the toe cap on one of my skates has separated from the outsole. I can move it a little with just my hands, but I don't think it has detached all the way around. They are pretty low end skates, vapor x30's from a few years ago. I play 1-2 times a week on average.

I'm guessing that it's pretty risky to play in these, but unfortunately new skates aren't really an option right now. Is this something I (or a LHS) can fix with some epoxy, at least temporarily?

I had this happen to me, but a little more severe. What I did was bout some gorilla glue epoxy, and applied it between the toe cap and outsole and taped it down until it dried. After that they were good to go. If they are under warranty, you should just go that route.

Contact cement, epoxy, superglue -- any permanent adhesive works, and will restore the skate to original integrity. I've had to do this a few times after punching out toecaps, and I've never had separation issues subsequent.

Had that happen to the toe of my One90's a few years ago. I used JB Weld and colored it black. Super strong and lasted a few years... I think the current owner still has the skates & going strong.
