Easton EQ40 or EQ5?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking to get new skates and I'm currently looking at either the EQ40s or EQ5s. Anyone had a chance to compare these two or have thoughts on either pair? I haven't seen much in the way of reviews for the EQ5s.

Anything helps, thanks guys

The EQ40 would be comparable to the EQ4 from the EQ5 and as a result, is not the top end skate that the EQ5 is. They are both decent skates for their respective pricepoints (moreso now since they both should be on clearance). When I compared the two lines side by side, I noticed that the EQ5 line had slightly wider upper quarters (upper ankle) than the EQ50 line. Post-bake however, it should wrap around as needed. Fit is very similar. The biggest tangible difference that I remember is that the EQ5 line had slightly lower cut boots than did the EQ50s.

I find the eq5 to be a very responsive skate. Durability has been good. It's fairly stiff and unforgiving of poor technique. As I get tired my skating suffers more than I see on MLX or the myriad Bauers I've worn over the years.

For my foot the forefoot is too narrow but I still wear it for big games. The eq40 seemed a bit more polished and main stream when I tried it on.
