Bauer APX skates, now rubbing above outside ankles

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Decided I will throw it into another thread as it's a separate issue.

I seem to have defeated the lace bite without replacing tongues.

Now have another issue. On both feet above the outside ankles where boot ends I now get skin rashes from rubbing and it sux!

Bauer actually say and you can see it on the skate installed some padded stripes in those areas. However, as the tongue they do not work.

"The durable CLARINO® top layer minimizes wear and tear around the top of the ankle. Featuring a NEW integrated comfort wrap designed to alleviate abrasion high on the ankle during the break-in process and added comfort throughout the life of the skate."

How do you fight this dang thing? I dont even think you can stick anything there... I can only think of placing gel pads into the sock.. Duhhh

Thanks

tape your ankle like you would see for football players. get some pro wrap, then use athletic tape over the pro wrap

kinda like this but obviously just over the affected area and only do tape it tight enough so it wont move, its just a second layer. also dont tape it all in one strip as you will cut off circulation, tape one strip around the ankle rip and then move up with a small overlap

Could it be that the APX just simply isn't a skate for you?

No APX is good skate for me, verified, but these fitting issues gotta be worked out..

tape will help a ton. try that first. if you need any advice go see a sports therapist and they can help you with taping. just remember to do it in strips, that way you dont cut off the circulation to your foot

Maybe you have weak ankles and pronate a lot? happened to me before but not with a boot as stiff as the apx.

No, I am pretty strong on the ice. However, I started thinking about maybe i didnt lace top part tight enough past few time, because switched to non waxed laces...

I will run fan over those areas as well, will try to soften it up a bit. Plus use tape over the spots for now. Will see what happens. Thanks all for feedback!
