jnovakii 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Hey all,I'm upgrading my skates today. Currently in a CCM U+06 and they are falling apart, not to mention the incredibly awful lace bite that I can't remedy no matter what I do.My question to you: Do I buy the Bauer Supreme One.9 or save the $200 and go with the One.8? I'm not sure what the huge differences are for that price. Anyone try both and have some thoughts? I know the Supreme is the skate for me after trying them on. I'd love to get a Vapor but my feet don't fit well in that skate. Thanks everyone!
Kyle Friedman 9 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 Deffinatly go with the skate that fits your foot better. How often do you skate? If you skate up to 3 or more days a week, Id go for the one.9.You get a big upgrade from the one.8 to the one.9 (better outsole, curve composite boot, lighter weight, better tongue), in my eye's, its worth the extra $$. Good call. Appreciate the comment back, sir.
Kyle Friedman 9 Report post Posted March 25, 2013 The curve composite boot on the one.9 is much stiffer, and gives much better energy transfer. It is also very heat moldable and takes to the shape of your foot very well...the boot will also last you alot longer without breaking down/loosing its stiffness. If its in your budget, go for the one.9.
mickz 107 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 The ONE.9 is a bit lighter than the ONE.8 but we're talking a few grams here, it won't make a huge difference once they're on your feet.If you're moving from the U+06 directly into either of these Bauer Supreme boots the level of increased stiffness is going to be significant. Assuming the Supremes fit, it comes down to whether or not you want the Curv Composite outer, slightly thicker tongue, different liner, and outsole. For most people the ONE.8 is already enough skate. innotastic 12 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 my last pair was the one80 (old one.8, basically same thing) and i'm currently in the one.9.here are my thoughts. the biggest difference between the two is stiffness. all the other junk really doesn't make as much of a difference. the one.9 is in a different ballpark compared to the one80s when it comes to stiffness. i learn hard on my skates and the tongues on the one80 broke down after a bit over a year and a half, the one.9 tongues are starting to wear down now after about 9 months. i start getting lace bite after the tongues break down. i attribute the tongue breakdown to stiffness level of the skate, the one80 just gave more so the tongues worked less. the one.9s don't really "break in" like the one80s did, i had to bake them twice. the stiffness of the boot was rather unforgiving when it came to breaking in skates. performance wise its true the curv composite and extra stiffness and composite outsole on the one.9s really help with hard maneuvering, but that wasn't much of an issue in the one80s either. the main reason i replaced the one80s was because the skate fenders i were using were a size small and caved in the toe box of the boot. the ankle area is as stiff as it was when i bought it, but the toe area was just dilapidated. ive since went up a size on my skate fenders and there hasn't been any wear on my one.9si'm quite a light weight by NHL standards, but i'm big on my skating and edge control so good skates are important to me. hopefully this helps. let me know if you got more questions. Andoy 5 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 I was in this situation last year. I chose the .8s instead of the.9s .I skate 2 maybe 3 times a week (only play beer league). I couldn't justify the extra 200 to warrant the purchase of .9s.All in all, both are solid skates. You can't go wrong with either!
osicks 6 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 You won't regret going with the one.9s, trust me. The extra $200 is worth it IMO
