Blademaster X6

Recommended Posts

I've been skating on X6 for a couple of years now & love it.

I had planned to build a FBV spinner dresser for my Blademaster machine, so my son & I tried all 4 of the original FBV cuts several times but never really liked any of them. Then I ran across a deal on a Blademaster Form Dresser that came with an X6 roll, & it was love at first glide.

I was using the X7 and really liked it, the next time I went they gave me the X6 and I hated it as it was far too deep, totally could not handle it. I since switched to FBV and do prefer it, but be very careful with more bite, especially now that summer is coming and ice will be softer in most places. Deep hollows can be difficult to handle in that.

That's odd because I was skating on 3/4 roh, & found X6 had a little more bite, but in a good way. Its supposed to be the equivalent bite of about 1/2", & I would agree with that, maybe even more like 9/16. I'm also not a fan of deep hollows, & this feels very controllable.

Maybe he grabbed the X5 by accident, & gave you something that feels more like 3/8. There's a bunch of numbers/letters on a roll & they're lightly scribed in.

They only have X6, X7, X8, don't they? My point is though that the X6 had significantly more bite than the X7, that's why I hated it. Felt like I just kept getting stuck in the ice from it. X7 is 1/2 to 3/4 while X6 is 3/8 to 1/2, so you were correct in that. They didn't have any other ones available that are not on the Blademaster pdf as well.http://www.blademaster.ca/pdfs/bfdflatbottom.pdf

He also might have just done a crappy job sharpening. I've had them sharpen my blades at HockeyMonkey in a way that the edge was missing on half a blade and it was just flat on the inside, in a way you could see it with the eye. They did fix it well (Justin the manager there) for free after I pointed it out though. I don't have enough experience yet to say a sharpening was poor when it isn't blatant.

To be honest I like my real FBV a bit better than I liked the X7, even more glide in that with a nice amount of bite, but that's another topic. ;)
