muscle mass

More muscle mass will make your more powerfull, but not always faster. It also depends on how much muscle mass you get, because it could cause you to go slower if you look like one of those worlds strongest men guys. Gain body mass, and at the same time, do some plyometrics so you can continue to train your new muscle.

im working witha personal trainer now and we're doing bodybuilding to work on a six pack, my biceps, my triceps, my shoulders, and my leg strength as well as pecs and chest. Im not trying to look like an ''arnold'' but i want to change all of my fat into muscle. im also doing alot of polymetrics with him too for hockey. i just dont want to be slower. he told me that i might gain or weight from muscle mass but my muscles will be more trained and i will have a more powerful stride and my muscles will be able to work better on the ice.

Yes. So why are you asking us? He just gave you a perfect answer? You will gain weight when your muscle mass grows, but the weight will be muscle, not fat, so dont worry.

Of all of the stuff you mentioned the plyo's and "legs" may help your skating. Most of your workout seems to be more for general fitness or to look good in the locker room and won't help your skating at all..

I repeat what Chadd said, plus it isn't as easy as putting on more muscle makes you faster or slower. How, where, and what type all affect performance gains on the ice. If you bulk up your upper body and keep your legs teh same, you will be slower. Also, without juicing or living with a professional nutritionist, you will gain fat with that muscle, it's pretty much a fact. Unfortunately, your question isn't as simple as you thought it was. You could even put on mass in your legs, but if you're putting on Type I fibers, slow twitch, they aren't going to help your skating, they'll just help you box people out and move them, which is kinda like lifting a weight. Unfortunately, your trainer may not know a whole bunch about sport specific training and even less about hockey specific training, which means that he might know nothing at all. If you aren't doing deadlifts, lots of abs, heavy calf work, and nonbulk upper body strength lifts, he isn't worth it. Find a trainer that is an athlete as well, if this guy isn't.
