20K Skate- blisters?

Recommended Posts

I've got a pair of 20K Reebok skates and I'm getting some serious blisters on the inside of both of ankles with them. The kind that stop me from skating. What can I do to reduce them or to do the skate?

Do you wear socks? If you do wear socks try a bit thicker of a pair, such as Nike elites or something like that. If you don't wear socks, start wearing em.

If you go to your drug store and look in the foot care section they should have a product called moleskin. It comes in sheets about the size of an index card, is sticky on one side with a wrapper like a bandaid and fuzzy on the other(like a mole I guess). You take the sheet cut it to size, bigger than the affected area but small enought to provide good adhesion. Then stick it to the area that rubs. This prevents and protects the area from further iritation.

If you already have a blister that is open they make a product called second skin. It is a moist gel with an inner mesh and has plastic wrap on both sides. It comes in sheets a little smaller than the moleskin. Properly clean the wound first and use an antibiotic ointment. Then cut a piece of second skin the size of the open wound, remove the plastic wrapper and place the gel on the wound. Place a piece of moleskin larger than the second skin over top of the area. Remember you want the moleskin to be large enough to provide good adhesion.

These 2 products are made by many different manufacturers and were life savers in the infantry. Just remember an infected blister can lead to very a serious infection.

I can't speak to 20k's but I tend to get blisters from my skates not being pumped enough. Try giving it a few extra pumps to reduce room in the ankle which should produce less sliding.
