Help with sizing/fit

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm sure I've troubled you enough with my skates for big feet thread, but now I'm just getting myself super confused!

I'm looking for a new pair of wheels but have the misfortune of having big feet, big narrow feet!

I'm a 14 uk in trainers 15 us

13 uk in dress shoes 14 us

According to the Bauer Brannock I was measured on the other day my feet are around a 13-13.5 on whatever their measurement is, and Narrow (narrower than d but I forget exactly what)

I went to my LHS the other day and tried on a pair of their new vapor x60 in 12 as that box size comes up to about 12.5 uk.

They were tight, lengthwise, with my toes pressing the end when standing up straight on them, and feathering the toe cap when bent forward in the skating position.

Would you guys say this is too small or just right?

How much will they grow after being baked and broken in?

They felt not much smaller than my Graf 705 oversized 13's if at all.

Sadly bauers only retail option in a 13 is in e width and I'm pretty sure that's gonna be miles too big. Also no shop around stocks them, so will have to be a special order, which I'm sure they will not be too happy returning!

If you we're me, would you...

Get the 12s and hope for the best

Order in 13s and hope the extra width doesn't ruin my feet

Go custom ?

If anyone can help out with fitting etc via Skype (im based in the uk) that'd be amazing

Thanksz

As someone with special feet myself, I'd recommend customs. Once you're in the land of feet that are truly too short, too long, too deep, too skinny, too wide or a combination of the above it becomes very difficult to find a pair of off the shelf skates that will fit. I used to get skates that were too big to compensate for the increased width of my feet. I have a large selection of nearly new skates as I experimented and played around with various brands and models trying to find a pair that actually fit. Having moved to Florida, selection for non-standard feet and experienced fitters were as rare as unicorns. Fortunately JR moved back to the state for a while and spent several hours working with me on a pair of customs. I will never buy another pair of retail skates.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that ;-( don't really want to drop that much coin!

I'm also scared that the person who measures them won't do as good a job as someone who does this regularly!

What measurements do you normally take?

Greyskull if your going custom try VHFOOTWEAR their is a whole thread on this, and everyone who says they have them loves them. They are 900$ for customs, with the holder, and steel.

It sounds like the size 12 X60's fit well. Feathering the cap when in a skating position is ideal. When you break them in the heel pocket will compress a bit which will give you a touch more space (not a lot, but a little bit). If they fit well otherwise I'd just grab those instead of spending money on customs.

I almost sent the same reply the other day, in fact I had typed that that sounded like the perfect fit. Didn't hit post in the end though because of the fact the fit was standing & skating position vs. the more traditional seated vs. standing with reference to touching vs. feathering the toe cap. I have really f'ed feet, I have a EEE ball and an A hell, I overpronate or have a mobile arch, one foot is a half size smaller than the other, my foot depth is off the chart and I have a growth from a parachuting incident when I was in the military. The problem for me is as skates get smaller they get narrower, in your case as they get longer they will get wider. Skates are a major investment. If your gloves, pants, shoulder or elbow pads are too big or too small it can cause mild discomfort, skates that are too long, too short, too wide, too narrow, too shallow or too deep can cause such a state of misery it can take away your desire to play.
