mid kick point and lowkick practicle difference

Recommended Posts

Hi

Can someone please explain the practical difference between this types?

Been playing with Warrior Diablo (kovalchuk curve, lie 4) and Reebok 16k (dansyuk curve).

Even though my sticks are short, I find Reebok 16k a blade heavy stick.

Due to the short length it becomes hard to put a good flex on the shaft.

I want to look into new Bauers, but it's hard to figure out what to expect from these types.

I have Baur X60 (pm9) and x7.0 (kane), but have not been playing with them lately.

Thanks

So essentially a low kick stick will flex closer to the blade of the shaft. This allows the shaft to load and release quickly. Most people find this ideal for snapshots and wrist shots since they can get their shots of quicker.

Mid kick sticks flex in the middle of the shaft. You can typically load up the shaft more so than a low kick stick. This will cause the release to be slower, but in turn will have a higher velocity. This is why many people like mid kick sticks for slapshots.

This is just a basic explanation, it gets more complicated. In the end it all comes down to preference. Try as many sticks as you can and see what feels the best for you. As for the sticks you are looking at, the diablo has a lower kickpoint.

Thanks, I was figuring along this lines :) Got to try to see if it works better or not.

What flex are you using and what are your height & weight?

I am 5.9/175lb and my current sticks are like ~57" in full length which makes them from 75 flex into over 100. It's very hard to flex. You gotta be a one bad ass dude to flex shafts this stiff while on ice:)

instead of focusing on lower vs mid kickpoint, I suggest you buying an intermediate stick, and you will find your shots to load amazingly well :)
