Hockey tape friction

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if it's a personal preference or some players feel this way, but I like the puck to feel heavy on my stick on ice. Probably since I've worked so much on a shooting pad in the last couple years.

I've been using BladeTape, and while it gets a bad reputation from other players, it actually works really well in feeling the puck and giving me that extra edge. I tried friction tape on the blade and absolutely hate it. I have found with white tape and BladeTape I can see the puck out of my peripheral vision and feel it alot better.

I know you can rub a puck on regular stick tape to increase friction, but are there any other ways to increase friction on regular cloth tape (Howies) so I can move from BladeTape? I always worry they'll go out of business and will have no alternative. I also highly recommend trying BladeTape if you're willing to put up with ordering and a little extra costs. Extremely durable as well (lasts about 12 games) and repels ice. All I do is spray it with water on the bench and any snow is gone.

I've been using blade tape for a few years now and absolutely love it. Anyways the closest you'll get to that feel is if you use wax on regular stick tape. Not quite the same, but about as close as you can get. You can also try that 3M liquid tape. I used to put a sticky epoxy on the tips of my blades and that worked pretty good at keeping the toe tacky feeling.

I like the Erik Cole kind of tape job, it provides me a pretty good grip, but by far the best feel for the puck since there's no extra layer and the stick is in direct contact with the ice.
