Bauer X7.0 Skate Tongue Break in

Recommended Posts

I just recently picked up a brand new pair of Bauer X7.0LE skates. They are an overall phenomenal skate but the tongue is giving me a lot of trouble. I prefer a very tight fiting skate and the tongue doesn't seem condusive to that. When I lace my skates I put the tongue square with my lower shin and tighten the skate all the say up using every eyelit. This forces the tongue fairly close to my shin which is what I prefer. However, this also causes the tongue to conture to the inside portion of my foot and skate boot. This has never been a problem before and hasn't caused any pain in the past while using X:40s or an old pair of X:60s that had already been broken in. In the X7.0s though the tongue seems to be incredibly stiff and thick and causes incredible pain on the inside of my ankle, right where the ankle ball/bone portrudes. Apart from standard baking, breaking in by skating or wearing around the house, is there anything else I can do to speed the process? Has anyone else had experience with the X7.0 tongue and does it get better? Also, are there any other tips/tricks on how to lace my skates to avoid this? I'm willing to try just about anything

Sounds like it is just going to take time to break the tongue in. I know that the high-end vapors of last year had very stiff tongues.

You could try gel lace bite pads or other gel pads to relieve a little of the discomfort. I dont think it will do exactly what you are looking for though.

Another thing I have found is try using thicker, non waxed laces (you can still get them as tight as you want). The wider/thicker laces have always felt like they put less pressure on my foot without cutting or digging into your foot as much as thin-waxed laces do. That still might not keep the tongue from slipping to the side of your foot though.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the x7.0 tongue, and saw a suggestion to undo the top eyelet. I saw a few people say that it helped, and I also suggested to my friend who said it helped too.
