Supreme one.6 vs one.7 Skate

Recommended Posts

After trying on many different skates I think I've discovered that the Bauer Supreme fits my foot best, (Currently in Vapors). For a number of reasons which I won't list here, I've narrowed it down to the one.6 or one.7 models. Stiffness isn't important to me as I grew up in leather skates and have very strong ankles, (I can skate with no laces for fun). I actually kind of like the one.6 a little more because it felt a little lighter and less rigid. My concern is with the tongue and the potential for lace bite.

Does anyone currently skate in the one.6 and if so, what's your experience been, particularly with the tongue?

The one.6 is $189 while the one.7 is $332, so needless to say I'd like to save the $143 if the one.6 is a decent skate.

If it matters, I'm 5'11" and weigh 190 lbs. Play 1-2 times weekly in beer leagues and am a very strong skater, (albeit much slower than in my youth) :)

One.6 with some features from the One.7.. cheaper than the prices you listed.

I have em and don't have any problems with lace bite or anything like that.

Interesting, it looks like the one.6 with the one.7 outsole. There's a Source about 10 minutes from my house, so I'll have to stop in and check them out.

Thanks.

Those SMUs are killer for us. (Great sellers)

If you can find an older pair of One Matrix in your size, those would be a good upgrade at a discount.

Well I went and tried the Supremes on again and I was busting out on top of the instep. I thought Supremes were supposed to have more volume but they were worse than my Vapors. I tried on the ccm u08 and they felt pretty good. Not crazy about the scalloped runners though. What other boots out there fit similarly to the u+ line? What about the RBZ line, how do they compare to the U+ line?

RBZ is close to U+, but with greater out-of-box comfort, which for me, is likened to the way a Supreme skate feels. They run a different sizing scheme though, however, it is a good place to look towards next.

Thanks Air, I'm going to go try on the RBZ tonight. I don't know why I'm having volume issues as I don't think of myself as having particularly wide feet with a high instep. I do have flat feet, but that never caused me issues in the old school leather skates. Vapors don't feel too bad, but the toe box is a little too narrow for me and a little short on depth. At this point I've tried on almost everything except the RBZ and Mako.

By the way, that Matrix SMU that you recommended is an excellent skate. I was ready to buy them last night, that is until I put it on and found it lacking in volume for me. Too bad because I really liked it.

Happy to help! Volume is tricky business because for some, it must be perfect while others have no issue with a boot that is a touch too shallow.

Yep. I normally don't mind a little volume problem, as is the case with my Vapors. I was just shocked at how bad it was with the Supremes. There was one spot on the inside where you could actually see my sock between the tongue and eyelets. I've never seen that before and actually thought it was a defect and grabbed another pair. Couldn't see my sock on the next pair, but it was pretty close. Didn't have a straight edge on me to do the pencil test, but I could tell I would fail from about the 4th-6th eyelets.

So I tried the RBZ80 tonight and they felt pretty good but they may have been a little wide just before the toebox. When they're baked will that part of the boot pull in a little tighter?

On a side note, ccm started a new promo today at Pro Hockey Life. If you buy the RBZ's you have a choice of a $150 gift card or a free Stage2 stick ($300 value).
