How do I keep myself open for a deflection but be able to bury a rebound?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! When I play forward I am usually down low in front of the goalie. I have a very good tip and love to use it, but when I don't get the tip that I'm going for I can't get a rebound. How can I keep myself open to tip the puck in but still have myself in position to bury a rebound? Thanks.

Bob Hartley used to teach guys to come out from the crease towards the shot a couple feet as the shot was on the way. It creates distance between you and the defenseman and enough space to be able to do something more than just bang the puck into the goalie's legs on the rebound.

Having enough space between you and the goalie is key in my opinion. I like to keep the defenseman on my hip so I can spin and create a window of opportunity.
