Applying grip to sticks?

I've always used grip sticks because of the feeling of added control. However, I ordered 9 APX2's through Bauer and the grip texture was never applied to the sticks. I've been using them for the last couple weeks and can feel my hands slipping on shots. Does anyone know a product that would be most like what the manufacture would apply to the sticks at the factory? I've tried rubbing the sticky side of tape on them, but that gets so tacky I can't even move my hands. The LHS I ordered the sticks through also let me try out a grip spray because the order got messed up, but it was more of a pine-tar feeling product. If anyone has any sort of suggestion I'd love to hear it. Thanks
