Does modifying a tongue fix lace bite?

Recommended Posts

My new x100s are giving me the bite. I've tried every lacing technique and no dice. I called a local skate shop that has a good rep and apparently they do some surgery on tongues that "fixes the lace bite for the life of the skate". Is this possible?

I answered your other thread with some information. But to answer your question about the tongue. It's a 50/50. If the tongue is the problem, then adding some felt or gel padding to the tongue, will fix the issue. However, if it's a boot size (too large for your foot) problem, then you're wasting time and money.

If you can double sock with some thick socks and fit inside your boot comfortably, then the boot is too large.

Lace bite stems from 3 areas:

1. Improper boot size.

2. Broken down tongue or too thin tongue (the Bauer Supreme tongues are notorious for being too thin- 99% of the pros replace the Supreme tongues).

3. Laces are too tight.

Actually, you left out the number one issue; The boot is too stiff.
