Baking Old Skates

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking to get back into recreational hockey after a break of about ten years. Just before I stopped playing I bought a pair of CCM Vector Pro skates but I never baked them. I played for a couple of months in them then took a job in West Africa which stopped me playing and since then life has generally stood in the way of me starting again. I recently started skating again but due to a bit of weight gain etc the skates just don't feel a comfortable as I remember. My question is can you bake a skate that old or will the adhesives break down after so long? I asked the LHS but they just said throw them in the oven and see what happens, but since they're in otherwise excellent condition I'm reluctant to gamble with what was a £400 skate.

Will they be good to bake or should I just try and re-break them in old skool?

If you haven't baked before they should be fine. I'm not an adhesive expert but unless they were exposed to a particularly hot and humid location, I don't know why they would have deteriorated over the years.
