Tuuk Lightspeed Edge Runner Rust Inside Holder

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I've got a quick question about the Lightspeed Edge holders on the new Supreme 190s I recently bought. I've got two sets of LS3 steel for them and I realised when I changed between them after using the skates twice that there was some water on the top part of the runner (that normally sits inside the holder). I noticed that there was already a little bit of rust forming over there, presumably from the first time I used them (since I hadn't taken the blades out after that one). My question was: is this a common thing for these Edge holders and is it at all a problem? I normally take pretty good care of my blades and wipe them down pretty thoroughly after I use them and have never had rust problems with my old pair of skates. Should I take the time to remove the runners and wipe them down on top as well after each session? I pretty much only noticed it because I took the blades out, so I imagine this might happen with other holders too and isn't necessarily a problem, but I thought I'd check. Thanks!

I have little spots of rust near the top of the steel in my LS2s. I wipe them down after each skate, have soakers, & store them upside down until the boot is dry. I haven't seen a significant increase in the amount of rust over the three or so years I have had the skates so I' stopped worrying about it & I just visually check on it every skate. Of course for me to remove the blade is a tad more difficult than it is for you so I won't be doing that anyway.

Thanks, I figured it might be standard and somewhat more visible because I can remove the blade easily. I was wondering whether there was a bit more space with the Tuuk Edge that would let more water get into the holder but I'm guessing that's probably not the case. I'll just keep wiping them properly and using the soakers and not worry about it if it doesn't have an impact on how the runners perform. Out of interest, why do you store the skates upside down? I've never heard that before.

I feel like it helps sweat/moisture run out rather than sink & gather in the foot bed area as they air dry (I remove my insoles after each skate too).
