Time for an upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, wanted to pick your collective brains on if I have an equipment issue or am just a sweaty monster. I currently have Easton Eq50 skates and Easton EQ Pro gloves. Neither are very high end, obviously, but they fit well and I like the feel. However, what I noticed is that after about playing for awhile, both my gloves and skates are VERY wet from sweat. It is to the point where the inner palms of the gloves are so wet that it effects my handle, and my skates get wet and feel soggy, slow and I lose the uninhibited feel that I have when I start my session.

Question I have is, do we think if I upgraded to a better glove with a higher end palm and skates that are stiffer and have a better ventilation system I would be much better served? Or is it that I just sweat a lot and making those switches won't have dramatic changes.

For what it is worth, I am 30, about 190 pounds and mostly play pick up in fairly competitive environments about twice a week.

Bottom line is I feel after 30 minutes of play my equipment does not hold up and I play worse, I want that to end.

Thoughts?

If I remember correctly the EQ50 skates were top of Easton's line when they came out. Mine are much stiffer than my pro tacks and my 1152 tacks, so I'm not sure how much stiffer you want a skate to be.

Are you using regular cotton socks? If you are, look into some of the skate socks. Skate socks definitely helped me with moisture management. My socks would be soaking wet after a game, and now my new (Bauer) skate socks just end up being damp after a game. There are lots of companies that make them.

As for gloves, not sure what palm is on your gloves, but you would just have to go to a store and see what kind of glove/palm you like. Some have extra vents on the backrolls as well, but I honestly don't think they help a ton. Another suggestion would be try using a different grip for your stick, maybe a tacki-mac or some gauze.
