Mako Skate vs SE16. Sizing question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Im about to buy new skates. As I am not able to try some on I thought it would be the best route to get Makos (probably m8) as they are so thermo formable.

Im currently wearing Easton SE16 Skates in 7.5W which are by far too lang. If I push my foot in front as much as possible, I have more than a pencil width space in the heel. The rule of thumb is one pencil width equals one size isnt it?

So I would assume that I would need a 6 or 6.5 in length. But Im not sure if the sizing in Easton skates may changed over the years. Could anybody clearify this? My feet are a tad shorter then 25cm (less then 10") and almost 10cm wide (less than 4").

It would be great if you could help me out, even though I know this is not a perfect science and just trying the skates on will clear things up. Thank you

1 pencil is generally one size, it depends on how much over the pencil you are and how you like your length fit. Makos run larger than SE16's by around 1/2 to 1 size eg Mako size 9 = SE16 size 10 = Bauer one.9 size 10 = NXG size 10 (again depending on how you like your length fit, in these examples the Mako was a perfect fit but the others had a tiny bit of wiggle room).

With feet a little under 25cm in length, you are (imho) a size 6 in Bauer (supreme / Nexus) / Rbk / CCM, a 6.5 in Graf / Bauer (Vapour) and a 5.5 in Mako's. Note that this is all for D width, in EE you might get away with 1/2 a size smaller in everything but the Grafs and Makos. I looked at Makos but discounted them as they are a wider fitting boot in the heel area and I have narrow heels so went the Graf route.

These sizings are based on my personal experience of trying on these boots, my foot is 25cm in length.
