Issue Skating on Cracked 20k Holder?

Recommended Posts

Finished up my league skate tonight and noticed a broken holder. I have another league game tomorrow night, but doubt I'll have time to get it fixed tomorrow...and that's even if my LHS has the holder in stock. Should there be any issue playing on this one more time? It's definitely a bit annoying since this is probably only the 10-15th skate I've used these at, and I really don't even remember taking a shot with the puck there.

It seems like it should be ok, in looking at it, since it's not broken on the actual part of the holder where the steel sits.

I feel your pain. My 20k holders lasted four ice times. The E-Pro seems to crack super easy... I definitely didn't feel safe skating on a cracked holder, I would play it safe and try to get it fixed before I skated on it.

Thanks. I was afraid to hear that other people had cracking problems too, since I was using 6ks before this and the e-pros held up completely fine on those  .

I actually looked at it a bit more this morning and noticed a crack running all the way back to the 4th oval, so I'm definitely going to get them fixed before skating with them again.

Every holder is different, but all can break and have the possibility of breaking even the first time on the ice with them. As stated before I agree, I would get them fixed before skating on them. The E pro holder for the most part is a good holder (as good as any of the others), but can still break and with that any holder should be changed for safety sake even if there is a small crack, as you never know how it could react.

Great points again jdksaves.

Remember OP, don't make assumptions about quality when your sample size is small! E-Pros are no better or worse, at least not enough to be of any measurable difference. See if you're within warranty date as well.

Yeah, I definitely understand, it was a bit of frustration of having the holder break on a pretty new skate. I talked to the guys at my LHS and they don't have a left sz280 E-Pro in stock, and wouldn't be able to get one for a week. I'll just skate on my old (horribly sized by my own doing  ) 6k's tonight, and see if I can find a holder online to have the LHS guys install.

I emailed Reebok last night, but I was going to give them a call once I'm done with work today. I bought the skates at the beginning/mid of July, so I'm really close to the 90 days.
