wraith 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 I have a Wissota sharpener for 7+ years and my edges have been off for awhile now and feel like I'm slipping out on my skates. With the Wissota, I've double checked the installation of a new diamond tool, but I still don't think I'm getting the grip necessary at my usual 1/2" sharpening. Now, with the Hollow Depth Indicator (HDI), the site says that a 1/2" should have a hollow depth of .003 and that a 7/16 should have a depth of .004. With my sharpener and another rinks sharpener on the same skates, a 1/2" shows on my HDI at around 2.33 if I were to take a guess. However, a 1/2" should be at .003. Am I missing something here or is my HDI possible not set correctly.
jdksaves 56 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 HDI usually shows around 2.5 to 3 on a 1/2" for me
wraith 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2014 Is there a reason why there's such a large gap? 2.5 to 3.0 You would think that you can determine a precise number, but maybe there are some variables that I'm missing in the equation.
joepaw 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2014 Look at the width of the blade. I have the same set up...a wissota and hdi. the blade width is another variable that will change the reading on the hdi.for the most part I have been sharpening bauers with ls2 blades. 1/2 hollow comes in at 2.5 to 3.0 as well. JoshV 20 Report post Posted December 5, 2014 Width of the runners is one factor. Another is that we don't all dress the wheel to the same 1/2"
