Bauer Nexus skate fit differences, between years and models

Recommended Posts

Hopefully putting this in its own thread will put more eyes on this than having it buried in my skate thread...

I have been looking at tons of ice skates to try to get the fit I need for my wide, and voluminous feet. The best so far have been the nexus line of skates but so far, after about 6 shops, no one has the perfect size or width, and ive been trying all different models from the different years they were made.

So now as I have to order online to find the right skate, my questions are as follows...

-I know for their first year the nexus 1000 had a slight different fit than the nexus 800 and down, where the 1000 had a more straight walled fit and the 800 and down had a more figure eight fit. Does the newest lineup follow the same rule where the top of the line 8000 skate fits different than the lower tier skates?

-If not, do the new Nexus skates have a straight walled, figure eight, or their own different fit style now? Looking specifically at the 6000 skate.

-The Nexus 600 skate i tried seems to have a large "speed bump" at the arch, Would it be safe to assume the nexus 800 would have the same speed bump arch? I ask bc i never had an arch hurt my feet, even my mission AC2 skates which had a decent sized arch didnt hurt my feet. im finding that this speed bump type arch kills me. None of the other skates I tried on seemed to have this straight across, large speed bump characteristic either.

Imagine a cross section of a speed bump, a large slightly flattened half circle. It goes straight across from the inside to outside of the skate. Usually you have a little more arch height on the inside and it flattens out towards the outside but this feels like a large arch going straight across.

I apologize if im not understanding what you are saying.

Are you saying that it is a feature to help pronation?

or are you saying that i may be having trouble bc my feet pronate or have low arch?

I have a pair of 8000, amd tried on the 1000 and didn't feel any difference in fit between the two. I also have CCM RBZ as I also need a skate with volume and for wide feet. Maybe give them a try? I'm going to play in my RBZ until they completely die, then use the Nexus 8000. I really love the RBZ skates! I'll probably end up with another pair.

Rbz didnt fit my foot well, even the wide widths had wide mid feet but normal toe box and heels. which made it even odder. I also had bad luck with CCM and RBK lasting longer than a year or rec hockey.

Souldriver - I just wanted to chime in for what it's worth. I'm in the Nexus 400 11EE with yellow superfeet. It's been the best fit for me in my adult rec career. When I tried on Supreme EE's, it just didn't have the width I needed. I thought the 'D' in Nexus would be perfect, but there was still enough pressure in a few spots that my LHS recommended going with the EE. I found there wasn't enough arch support through Nexus 400 and almost a little too much volume within the boot. I added the superfeet without expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised with the result.

I didn't need a top of the line skate for me 1-2 games per week and another 2-3 hours on the ice coaching youth hockey. I'm in my 3rd season with these skates and they are wearing well.

Good luck!
