Youth Skate fit profiles

Recommended Posts

Hi,first post, but have been lurking for a bit. Great info and insights on here.

My soon to be 5 y.o. has a pretty wide foot compared to his peers. Been skating regularly for at least a year and a half now. He's in a pair of Easton Synergys, which are too narrow based on pulling the footbed and having him stand on them, and he occassionally complains of minor pain. Length seems good in a size 10. He is about to start a 3-on-3 cross ice spring league, so we want to make sure he is comfortable and continues to enjoy the sport.

I've heard varying input on whether the Bauer line skates in youth sizes actually follow the fit profile of each skate for the big boys. I'm thinking a Nexus might serve him well if they do. But, I've also heard it is the same last regardless of model in their youth stuff. Would like to confirm or deny that it possible.

Outside of Bauer, any other youth skates that run wider than others we should be considering? We tried on some CCM RBZ's yesterday. Width looked better, but there is some question on whether he is getting appropriate heel lock. He'll skate in the CCM's tomorrow with his skate instructor, so hopefully that will give us an idea of whether we need to keep looking. Either way it would be good to know what our options are until his feet are big enough to get into a Junior skate where we can more easily get variable widths.

I feel that Bauers generally follow the profiles of their JR and SR counterparts. See if you can try him in a Reebok too, as those fit rather wide in YTH.

Thanks. That is very helpful, as I'm sure he'll have a few more pairs of youth skates before moving into Junior sizes. He skated in the RBZ 70's yesterday and it sounds like they fit. Hopefully I'll get to skate with him on Friday and see for myself.
