Stick help

Recommended Posts

So I am a 14 year old I weigh 150 as of now but I will be putting some weight on this summer I play aaa hockey and I take a lot of snap shots where I really lean into them and some wrist shots and the occasional slap shot and I'm wondering what stick I should get. My options are warrior ax1 lt warrior dt1lt Bauer nxg Easton v9e ccm rbz stage two ribcor and true hockey 5.2/6.0 any help would be great thanks

You really need to provide some more info here when you ask for any advice.

How tall are you? How long do you like your sticks (ex. nose length on skates, chin length on skates etc.)? Consider this answer carefully as you're growing still.

What are you using right now? What do you like/dislike about it?

I like that you're open to sticks from every brand!

Alright I am 5"10 I usually go with an un cut senior I had a Bauer supreme team stick and liked that but it was a bit whippy, I then got an apx 2 and it was okay not to the best the blade seemed to soft

Cool, that helps. So if I assume that you prefer uncut SR sticks (which are typically 60") at 5'10" (which is reasonable), then what flexes have you used in the Supreme and APX2?

OK, I think you should stay in 75.

Since you do mostly snap/wrist and found the Supreme too whippy, I suggest you specifically target sticks with a low kick, extra-stiff blade. From your list, that would be the DT1LT, V9E and Ribcor, which I assume you compiled because all are on sale? I would avoid mid-kick sticks, which are pretty much the other ones you listed, except for the RBZ.

Among the 3, I would suggest Ribcor first, then DT1LT. The Ribcor has that extra stiff blade, especially at the toe where you'll be leaning into for snappers.

I liked the feel of the supreme I think it was just whippy because it was a team stick so it was really light but thanks for you help, yeah the ribcor is a good option it's a bit stiffer I find then other sticks as I had a ccm ribcor for a bit which I liked

It may have felt whippy because you're loading mid-kick sticks in the middle of the shaft and thus it 'lags' on the quick snaps that you like to do, hence staying in low-kicks.

Your feelings about the RIbcor are not unique in it playing stiff though. If you think that could be a problem, then DT1LT.

I think the ribcor would be just the right stiffness because I'm kinda just in the middle, do you know anything about true hockey sticks

Yeah I have a True A6.0. They're a mid-kick stick that I'm not sure you'll like the way they shoot. Fantastically light and balanced though.

I've been playing with a Warrior Covert DT1LT, and I think it would fit your description very well. Great on snaps and wrist shots. Plus it has a very stiff blade.
