Amazinmets73 69 Report post Posted December 26, 2015 Title says it all. Given that hockey is a fast-twitch dominant sport I've been operating on the assumption that interval training with 45 to 90 second bursts of exertion was optimal. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/how-freakish-keith-became-an-nhl-workhorse/
Vet88 674 Report post Posted December 26, 2015 But you still need a huge base built around aerobic exercise, my preference is a 80 / 20 aerobic / anerobic split. Others will have different opinions and there are quite a few research papers out there around interval training, I'm old fashioned. My son spent this year on a dedicated HIT regime, don't ask and it was against my advice, and he has just started noticing he is hitting the wall big time in the third period as his aerobic base falls away.
