Sniper15 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I saw a team called the Lightning at Honnen the other day and didn't see a number 7 and the captain's number was 39. I doubt it was your team though koysdar because the team i saw was awful. They were out of state though.
kosydar 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Yeah, that was my team. I was suspended that game. We played pretty badly that game, two of our defensemen were injured and one didn't make the trip. I was suspended, and we had to move another one of our best forwards back to play D. Overall, it was a pretty interesting tournament. It was very well organized, and there was some good competition. Two bad things about it though, the reffing and the lockerrooms in World Arena. I can understand no showers in each room, but at least a toilet and a ceiling! The reffing was probably the worst that I've ever seen, which is surprising, seeing as their headquarters are there. I got two game misconducts in 5 games, plus my team had 4 or 5 misconducts, all of which were terrible calls, and I'm not saying that because we didn't win the tournament, either. forsberg91 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 The reffing is awful in Colorado. A kid got a penalty for head contact. It was our biggest player and their smallest player. the kids head hit my friends shoulder and got called for it. What were your Game Misconducts for? kosydar 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Ah...I hate trying to justify penalties. That being said: First game of the tournament we're playing a team from Texas. Its a physical game thats getting chippy in the third. One of their players and I start chirping back and forth, no big deal. On the ensuing face off, he cup checks me not once, but twice. Theres a lot that I'll let be done to me, but definitely not that. So I turn around and elbow him in the chest. Ref blows it and gives me an elbowing. Right call. On the way to the box I say to the ref "so are you going to call the cup checking?" and he replys "what is cup checking?". So I take my hand and put it in between my legs and say "he was hitting me here with his stick the entire time." Not a smart move. Even though I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way to the ref, thats how it came off. Looking back, I don't blame him for calling it like that, but I was surprised he gave me the game instead of a ten.Second one was the worst call I've ever seen in my life, followed up by another terrible call. Fourth game, first game of the playoffs, puck gets dumped and I have a race for the puck with the other team's goalie. He skates out too far at the last minute and we make contact. Goalie interference. I can accept getting that called on me. The play keeps going on and I skate up the boards to backcheck on the ensuing rush. The ref backs into me and makes contact. He blows it down and yells at me that I got a misconduct for "abusing an official." I don't say anything, but I skate over and stand infront of the penalty box. He yells at me to get off the ice or he'll give me a game misconduct. At this point, there is 15 minute left in the game. I don't understand why hes kicking me off so I wait for my coach and captains to figure things out. At this point, the ref thinks I'm being disobediant and gives me a game misconduct, and threatens me with a match. A few minutes later we get a delayed penalty called against us. One of our players hits the puck to stop the play and gets a misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct. Three days later I sitll don't know what the hell was up with those calls.Sniper- what team are you on?
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 A guy in our league was banned and subject to a USA Hockey hearing because he demonstrated "cup checking" to a ref.
headonaswivel 1 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Is "cup checking" an American thing?? Cause in 17years of playing Ive never heard of a penalty for hittin a guy in the junk. Its not cool to be hit there, but a penalty???
kosydar 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 In the reffing seminar we were taught that it was to be called spearing and given a five minute major, or even a game misconduct if it gets bad enough. Like I said, definitely not my finest moment, even though my intentions weren't bad.

Its not cool to be hit there, but a penalty??? I think it is, lol. I was in Rochester for a tourney last weekend and I got "cup checked from behind". I usually am extremely tame on the ice, but I wont take that shit. So I smoked the guy and took the penalty.
