WHL Separate Warm-up Rule

Was listening to Spittin Chiclets today and heard them talking about the WHL having separate warm-ups at some point in the mid-80s or so. Does anyone have any info on what the rule was? How it functioned? What precipitated it’s institution?

Any information would be appreciated.
