Baking Vapor XXX's

Recommended Posts

As long as you bake them at the right temperature, and make sure it's on a surface that won't burn them, i think you'll be okay. I WOULD strongly reccomend using a shop's oven though.

I would reccomend not baking them at all.

Why wouldn't you bake them if you have the option, they are designed to be baked. Also if you going to do it at home, its preferable if your oven has a convection option, this is essentially what the skate ovens are. If it doesn't then make sure you turn off the heating element before you put your skates in so you don't burn them.

Boy, baking skates ain't no rocket science. What do you think the skate bake oven at a hockey shop is? Pandora's box? Some magic hocus-pocus witchery? It's an oven like your home oven, just bigger.

The only difference is that home ovens are typically too small to take both skates at once. You'll have to do it one skate after another.

It's all about knowing what you do. I've seen LHS-owners baking Vapor XX for 8 minutes (although it is WRITTEN ON THEM that you should only bake them for 2 minutes). I've seen people walking around in a hockey store with their heated skates on. No professional skate bake oven prevents staff stupidity.

Check the multiple threads we've had on here about baking, follow instructions and your result will be as good at home (if not better) as in your LHS' skate bake oven.

Maybe it's time we have a step-by-step guide with photos about the correct process of baking skates at home...

Dave is right. I don't recommend a regular oven, even if you shut off the heat. Use a convection oven, it circulates the hot air to distribute the heat evenly.
