I had bought a pair of these pads for my wife when she was going to try playing net in her women's league.

The function of the pads is great, the durability is a little on the light side but considering the level of play she was playing in they were fine.

The design is a knock off of the Vaughn Velo's. The pads function great. They just use thinner (lighter grade?) foams and materials. Also they are made in China which also helps keep the price down.

If you are playing purely recreational/pick up type hockey they would be fine. I would definitely recommend them over getting older used pads for the same price. The gain in performance of the butterfly style pad combined with the weight reduction is significant. I wouldn't recommend them for any sort of men's league or up level of play though.

If you are going to play any sort of league play you'd be further ahead to get the A9's or another companies equivalent senior pad. You'll pay a little extra up front but you'll gain better protection and longevity in the long run.

Thanks for the info. I think they would be much better my Itech 4.8s.

Quality wise I would say they are definitely better than the Itech 4.8.

I believe that Itech used the nylon weave/cordura inner leg material which is definitely not the way to go for ice use and the synthetic leather used on the face area of the Itechs was just awful. It almost reminds me more of a automotive or marine grade vinyl material rather than a goalie pad type synthetic leather.

Performance wise the Hespelers BLOW AWAY the Itech 4.8 series.

Hespeler did a pretty darn good job knocking off the Velocity design. These pads rotate like a dream and share most of the basic charecteristics of the Vaughn pad. There's just no comparison here. The Hespelers are WAY better.

Coming off the 4.8's I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the Hespelers.
