cantor22 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 so the other night we were playing hockey at the out-door rink and this kid's stick hit my best friend in the face, as soon as it happened i knew something was wrong, i looked at him and he was gushing blood and it was right around the eye, i took off my shirt and put it on his face and tookhim inside the shack, i also noticed he had what i though was a piece of wood in the corner of his eye but itwasskin, the stick hit him in the eye, we took him to the hospital and he needed 3 stitcehs and they cut the skin that was hanging away from his eye, and thankg-d there was no eye damage, it could have been much worse, like bryan berard, and he want wering his visor but he will now

vivaotravez12 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 A friend of mine plays soccer, and got kicked right smack in the face on a failed bicycle kick. 5 chipped teeth, broken nose(surgery) broken orbital bone, and some other damage around and in his eye. And no, the kid who tried the bicycle kick didn't score, he missed the ball...

hip check 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2005 I rode in the ambulance with a guy who got a puck in the face as he tried to block a shot. He complained about his vision being blurry, and pushed his eye just a bit back into the eye socket. Shattered orbital bone, a couple hours of surgery, swore he'd never play hockey again. It scared him pretty bad.Anything in the face is scary, but the eyes are the worst. I wear a visor because I've had 3 or 4 incidents. Be safe out on the ice.Good for you for quick thinking and staying calm. Not everyone would do the same.
cantor22 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2005 ya any injuryis serious but when it ahs to do witht eh face/eyes/head, its all the more serious, since it had to do with the eye, and it looked pretty good, they got him in to the treatment room pretty fast from the time we went to the er, we were in and out from a packed er in 45 minutes, no joke, we drove him there, didnt really feel we needed the ambulance, did the guy end up playing again? UMWhockey 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2005 I always wear a cage. I grew up wearing one and will never play without it. Being so short i get hit in the cage a lot and don't even want to think about some of the problems i would have had without the cage on

Being so short i get hit in the cage a lot and don't even want to think about some of the problems i would have had without the cage on Exaclty how I feel. I always manage to get clipped in the face by a stick or errant pucks once a game, not need to take off the cage to get scarred or worse by any of that stuff. stevoc 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 A few weeks back during a game this one guy caught the butt end of someones stick under his half face shield. We knew immediately something was wrong for he fell to the floor and was holding his face. What ended up happening was the stick tore his nose up the side where it meets the face, separating it up to mid bridge on one side. (most of his nostril was disconnected)

Jackal3688 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Yea, same thing happened to me kinda. Thank god I was wearing a visor though. If I wasnt wearing a visor, I def. would have been hit square in the eye. It got the top of my cheekbone and it cracked and chipped my visor, I was pissed. The kid was trying to lift my stick and his stick came right up and hit me in the face. Kinda weird too, it was my first game that I had ever played without a cage. Always scary stuff.
Edge 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Yeah, when I was like a squirt or something, we had a team party kind of thing and we were all playing street hockey. One of our guys got hit in the face with a high stick right between the eyes and he was GUSHING blood also. If you get hit anywhere in the face like that, it's going to be bleeding pretty badly. The kid didnt get hurt bad...just some stitches.
Jackal3688 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Yea, it actually didnt hurt that bad. It looks really bad all the time, but it wasnt as bad as I had expected. It was just kinda weird to have the blood gushing down my face and all over the ice, but i really barely felt it, other than the bruise on my cheekbone.
