Family Advisors

Anyone have any experience with USA NCAA eligibility rules and the use of a family advisor. What can and can't a family advisor do? Can the advisor talk to the student, or does the "advice" have to be thru another family member? Can a family advisor help with options from something like a CHA draft, or would that be over the line?

Obviously Chris Bourque was drafted by the QMJHL previously, had "advice" from a family advisor, but was eligible to play a year at Boston University. What were some of the lines he could not cross in dealing with this advisor?

I have read some of the NCAA webpages, but am still confused as they talk a lot about agents, but do not mention "family advisors".

Basically it's an agent but there is no formal contract or money involved.
