iPod formatting question

Ok, so I got an iPod as a wedding gift, and I am formatting it as I type this. It's a 20gb non-mini, and it has been formatting for like....5 hours now. Anyone know how much longer it's going to take to format? I am doing this at work and I need to get out of here soon. :)
