All right...you got the right guy here for info on Nashville hockey.

Here's what you get as far as shops in Nashville go.

1. Hockey Stop in Downtown Nashville. This is the largest hockey store in town and will probably have the best selection, but they never have decent pricing (even 3 year old stuff is list price) nor do they negotiate well. They also have the small retail space in our other rink Centennial Sportsplex.

2. Hockey Barn in Southern Ice Arena. Very small not much inventory, but they are expanding to a bigger room within the rink's building. As of 3 weeks ago, they have not made the move, but could be in there by this weekend...who knows. Since you'll already be at the rink, this ones a no brainer...you'll check it out anyway. Best skate sharpening you can get in Nashville is here.

3. Play it Again Sports in Cool Springs Mall. This store is right next to the Toys R Us at the Mall where Southern Ice Arena is located. Usually the best pricing for gear in Nashville. As of 3 weeks ago there was no new '05 stuff in, but that could have changed too. It's worth a look since you're in the area anyway.

4. Face-Off in Hendersonville. This is the store that used to be in Southern Ice arena until about a year ago when it moved to Hendersonville. The owner is looking to sell, so as of 9 months ago everything in the store was 2 or more years old without any new merchandise coming in. Hendersonville is about a 45-60 minute drive from Southern Ice Arena so it is definitely not worth the effort just to go see what they have...you'll more than likely be disappointed. Call them though if you are looking for something specific. They're not too greedy with their prices.

Southern Ice Arena is the newest ice arena to the Nashville area and is located in Franklin (a suburb of Nashville). It's about 15-20 minutes outside of downtown Nashville and located behind a large shopping mall, Cool Spring Galleria. Good Luck to y'all in your tryouts this weekend.

It's horrible. They were always anti-Easton so they only really carried Louisville stuff, then went back to getting Easton a couple years ago. Easton delayed stuff and I think they were back to anti-Easton but I haven't checked because that place is just horrid. Not to mention finding parking is a bitch.

There's a store at the GEC but I haven't seen sticks for sale there on a regular basis. The Hockey Stop would be the best shot for any pro stock Predators stuff but I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing any.

The Hockey Stop downtown has downsized since the initial review in 2005. It is very tiny and although I haven't been in there in a few months...they didn't have much of a selection, nor did they appear to have the space to have much of a selection when I was there.

The pro shop at Southern Ice has a pretty good selection and is definitely the best place to go for a skate sharpening.

The GEC (where the Predators play) does not sell hockey equipment. Just Predators logoed t-shirts, jackets, hats, etc.

I've never been to any of the Play It Again Sports locations so I cannot comment on those.

Another place you might want to check out right near Southern Ice is Dick's Sporting Goods. They just opened a store literally a mile from Southern Ice and although their Mt. Juliet location doesn't have any hockey equipment, the Franklin location might. Just another place to check out if you are in a bind or just browsing. The store is located in the Kroger shopping complex where the Wendy's is located.

Any new info on these shops? I want to go try on some skates while I'm up in Nashville. Interested in Grafs or RBK/CCM inlines. Can anyone recommend any good stores? Also, is there some sort of deposit or fee for trying on skates?

Nope... if you asked me Nashville doesn't even have any hockey shops. I'm afraid people are picturing a decent sized store with a lot of options, but that just doesn't exist in Nashville. The Hockey Stop is a joke, the prices are ridiculous and they have NO selection of anything. I bet they don't have 20 sticks in there TOTAL. not brands, or styles, I mean 20. The other places have limited supply and seem like they're geared toward the beginner which I guess makes sense with so many new people beginning to play. I am forced to order EVERYTHING online.

As for Pro-Stock stuff, not store necessarily, but you'll catch some pro-stock predators sticks for sale in the gift shop/pro shop thing at the GEC, but you'll have to fight the little girls and fat nerdy kids for them.... oh and they're overpriced
