  1. Tried both the FZ-1 and the FZ-3. Ended up going with the FZ-1 because the fit of the FZ-3 was to wide and they did not offer the regular width sizing. Also overall quality of the FZ-1 definitely worth the extra cash(Didn't hurt that I also got a nice deal on the FZ-1). Skated on it once and the comfort was definitely there and I haven't even baked them yet.

  2. So I have been playing both ice and roller hockey for a very long time. I have always preferred the feel of ice boots to roller. I was rocking the Bauer One 70 for over 7 years before they finally had to be retired. I than went to the Bauer S160 and the boot is already splitting at the soul by the toe. My first thought is that I got a low quality boot. Am correct in my thought process? Is there an ideal tier of ice boot to go to for conversion. I am not someone who likes to switch gear especially skates often so for me to need another pair so soon is very disappointing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kings / Doughty agree to terms on eight-year extension.

    8 years / $88 Million.

Glad he will stay a King.

At what point can we start referring to them as the AARP Kings. No doubt Doughty was a necessary signing but you have to admit you are starting to feel some of those veteran signings.

What have you found to be the best replacement for the 8k helmet so far? And for anyone to answer, what helmets on the market have a similar fit to the 8k?

From the people I have spoken with the ccm fitlite line particularly the fitlite 80 and 60 are the closest to the 8k.

  5. UPDATE****

Apologize for the delay in response. Have been dealing with a nagging injury and have not had the opportunity for much ice time.

i have to say though after 12-15 games this stick really lives up to the anticipation. The response and durability of this stick is very impressive. I think it is also important to not that after the last dozen games the stick still feels like new outside of some cosmetic marks.

Look forward to many more games with this stick!

  6. So I have been wearing a Reebok 8k forever now and it is finally time for a new lid. I saw the ccm fit lite 60 and 80 and was definitely interested because of what should be a similar look and sizing. Only question I have is how is the interior. Anyone have any problems with those inserts falling out? Is there any other big difference between the two lids?

  7. First off thank you to JR and True for the opportunity.

Time frame of use: One game.

Sticks that I have been using: I have been stocking up on the last of the Easton CX sticks.

General Intro: I have been an Easton guy for most of my playing career. I was lucky enough to have a opportunity on this forum last year to try out the Warrior QRL. I did love that stick but am a player of habit and went back to Easton after my QRL broke.

Weight/Balance/Feel: The stick did felt about the same weight wise as the Easton I have been using lately. As far as balance it did feel a little top heavy. The overall feel of the stick was very nice. Only took a warm up and a couple of shifts to get use to it.

Shooting/Passing/Feel: Didn't have many opportunities to take shots with the stick but I like the performance with the limited sample size I had. The puck handling felt great. The stick was very responsive and my passing was on point.

Durability: Only played one game so we will see. Nothing more than a little cosmetic damage to this point.

    Looking for opinions:

My right One95's heel is separating from the boot after about 6 months of conversion. I play 2-3 times a week and think its time to move on to something new. My Hi-Lo Magnesium chassis are fairly new and I am thinking about picking up a new pair of ice skates (for stiffer boot) and converting. Possibly supreme 180 or s170. I am picky about wheels so I feel like buying new roller skates would be a waste. What do you think?

If money is no object I would def go 180.

  9. So I am not very familiar with profiling skates. I really love the mako 2 boots but would really like a more standard pitch on my steel like my old pair of bauers. Can someone walk me through this such as what to ask for as far as a number also do I need to mention I had the skates profiled everytime I sharpen the skates after the initial profile?

    Thank you for your help!

  10. When do you guys think we might get positive (or negative) confirmation from Bauer regarding the fate of the Mako skate? I am really tempted to buy another pair of Mako 2's on sale, just to have in case my current pair breaks down and there's no other skate on the market that fits me as well.

What are the odds that Bauer would keep the design, but rebrand it like CCM did with the RibCor? I know that Mako sales were much lower than Vapors, but people like me with very narrow, low volume feet pretty much have no other option but Mako. We could get custom VH's but that's very pricey. A Mako hidden in a Bauer skin might sell better since I'm sure there's a bunch of people who settled into Vapors who really belonged in something a little bit more narrow, but anatomical.

Unfortunately I think the future of mako does not look good in Bauer Hand. There is no doubt that the technology is great as well as the performance but the price the average player pays for it scares many away. Don't forget when it came to the Ribcore line and CCM it had a huge following plus CCM wanted to have three different lines to compete with Bauer's three lines.

However I don't think Baier is going to scrap the technology. What may happen and again just taking a shot in the dark is that Bauer some how introduces the technology from the Makos into one of there current lines which would probably be the Vapors if I had to guess.

  11. Anybody have any issues with the durability of the outside of the skate from other skates, boards etc.? My only real concern is that the heel and "mesh" bits don't really look like they can take much abuse. Also, is the composite stuff on the heel structural, or mostly for looks? Seems like the actual boot is made of a darker, different material when you look inside the sole of the skate (on M8's anyway).

Have had the skates for over a year playing at least twice a week and mine have held up very well.

  12. Player Background: A League adult league. Play minimum two times a week. I am 6'0 185 lbs. I have had the skates for over a year.

Fit: directly out of the box the skate is very uncomfortable before you bake it obviously. Problem with not being able to experience the skates best feature is it makes it hard for you to commit at such a high price. All I can say is once you commit to baking the skates the fit will be like nothing you have ever experienced before. I have always been a player that insists of having very tight skates to the point of almost cUtting off circulation. I would re tie my skates between periods sometimes twice to keep the preferred tightness on previous skates. With the Makos II it was definitely a game changer. I only have to tie the top two eye lets tight. The way the skate forms to your foot after baking it so good you do not have to mess with anything else. The Mako II offer exceptional support and stiffness that has held up over a year. Break in time for me was less then a period that's how amazing the feel of these skates are. The tongue is thicker then skates I have had in the past which I think is wonderful and further provides protection from lace bite which I have yet to experience with these skates. It is a higher volume then usual so I would take that into consideration when going through the sizing process.Fit Grade: 10/10

Holder/Runner: This was the biggest thing to get used to for me. The forward pitch was definitely something new to experience. Again after using the skates for over a year I have to say the pitch is a little to aggressive for me but I only say that because I am a defenseman who is constantly in transition from backwards to forward. I did end up recently getting the skates profiled to alleviate some of the pitch and have been very happy with the result. I would only recommend this if you are a defenseman because like I said with some much steel on the back of the skate every once and awhile I found my skate getting caught when transitioning from forward to backward skating. I find the runner itself to be a little softer then other brands at this price point. For me all that really meant was I had to sharpen my skates a little more often than usual which is not a big deal in my opinion. The holder itself has held up well no complaints what so ever. Holder/Runner Grade: 9/10

Protection: this is where the skate falls short for me. Granted I have not broken a foot yet with these skates lol but I have found that the few times I have taken shots off the foot that it has not protected me the best and some of the shots were pretty weak and I felt all of it, especially in the quarter panel. Protection Grade: 7/10

Durability: so I have had these skates for over a year and have to say the skates are in great shape. Stitching has held up very well except for one little spot on one of my tendon guards. Skates has gotten the typical scuffs and scratches you would expect with the amount I have used them. I have not seen any sign of significant breakdown at all. The stiffness is still the same as the day I got the skates and the comfort level is just as amazing. Durability Grade: 9/10

Weight: I could definitely fell a difference when holding this skate in my hand compared to other skates. Once I compared them to others on my feet I have to admit compared to most at the same plot point I did not notice any bit of difference. Definitely a very light skate comparable to all other skates at this level and price point. Weight Grade: 8/10

Overall: I have never been more excited or happy with a skate in my entire life. I am very happy I took the risk with these skates it has definitely improved my performance while providing me with a comfort that I did not even think was possible. I am coming to you as a player that does not often change equipment other than sticks and can honestly say that if you make this investment you will not be disappointed in the least. I hoped this helped all of those looking for more information if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to private message me.

  13. I'm not so much worried about durability as I am comfort. If I get the original's and they broke down by the time the II's come down in price (whenever that may be) I'd be ok with buying the II's on closeout. I'm not making the NHL any time soon so even if Easton came out with some incredible new technology for the next model I don't think I'd ever consider spending $800 on skates.

Completely get it but much like Optimus said I think for the price point you're looking at I would go for the M8 instead of the original Makos

  14. This topic is making me think I should jump on a pair of original Mako's for the price I saw them. Just can't decide if I should bite on them for the price, or get the Mako II. Aesthetically of course I like the II's better but I'm at the point in my life now where looks aren't everything haha.

Completely agree with what you're saying. The only thing I will say as to why you should go with the mako2 is because the first generation makos had a couple of design flaws that effected the overall durability of the skate. I can only speak for myself when I say I have been in the mako 2 for over a year and have never been happier. Granted I agree the price is insane and it all comes down to how much you play and at what level.
