I use Flare with a Quad 1 profile and love it. While the regular flare 10' is good for most I need the forward pitch and the longer radius in the middle/heel. We have done a ton profiles on Flare steel.

I should note, on standard Flare (10' profile) I used a 1" ROH and after I profiled it I changed to a 1.5" ROH

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Flare use the standard factory profile of each manufacturer?  Ls3 edge being a 9'?

Its on their website FAQ https://flareskateblade.com/pages/faqs

Ugg, "mid max", more hair splitting.

I was looking at the Malkin curve on prohockeysticks.  It was described as an 88 with a toe curve, so I guess the same shape but with the curve just pushed forward toward the toe.  I would assume it doesn't have a lot of rocker and is fairly closed.  i liked some aspects of the 28 except when I'd shoot quickly from the point and not get my hands forward enough (watch your heads boys, incoming!).  I use an 88 now but like the longer "flat spot" of the 88.  I was thinking of trying the Malkin but pre-orders just closed.  Wonder if the 71 from Base is the same.

Bases BC71 and doesn't have much rocker and is closed throughout.  The toe is actually more closed (or less open) then the middle of the blade if you look closely.  There is also the CCM p71, which is the same as the Gionta W10.  If you go to Prohockeysticks it is the last curve in his video feeds.

I dont understand the question. The retail model will be in hockey stores so you would just walk in and buy the skate off the shelf.

Yeah I guess I was thinking of the process differently.  Wanted to get some a set of retail, holder not attached yet and have some mars blades put on them.  I don't think that can happen because like you said, they will just be fully stocked on the shelf.

There is a few very minor changes but its mostly the v2 version of the skates. I weighed the TF9 vs my 2019/2020 Pro Customs and the weight was within 20 grams.

What was the weight difference between v1 and v2 you had?  I have shotblockers in the last version of VH, which is an extra 50 grams I believe.  Looking at how much weight I could save to the new version.

    Howdy,

So... For the Marsblade O1 + boot combo...

What's the sizing of the boot like?

I wear a 7.5 D Mako for ice.  The volume and forefoot width are both arguable too small, but the combination of the heat moldability plus the metatarsal guard spreading out the lace load I think makes them work.  But they do work and I have no issues being in them for say five hours at a go when I ref.  I don't brush the endcaps with my toes, but it doesn't seem like there's a ton of room in there either.

The Bauer scanner thinks I should be in a 7.5EE Supreme.

I've got an older pair of 8D Ribcores that I could convert, but I'm thinking of just getting the boot / holder combo, particularly at the $280 price vs. $200 for the holder itself.  The Ribcores also feel a little sloppy compared to the Makos, so its not like they're at all perfect either.

edit:  Standing on a ruler, my right foot seems to be ~26.8cm and left is ~26.5cm

    Mark

One thing to note is they don't make wide boots, so you'd have to use their regular width option.  I am just getting this from the website so correct me if I am wrong.  I wear a wide True skate and my rollers are a 10.5E RBK, so my only option is a conversion.

Regular is nowhere near a Nexus/Jetspeed blade. It's really, really soft. Made for roller/ball hockey or Daniel Brière.

I do like a dampened blade, and I've used both XS and S, but I prefer the XS. I'd say stick with the XS, or try something like a Sher-Wood T90 gen 2, Bauer 2S Pro (most dampened blade feel of any stick I've used, outside of wood), or CCM Trigger. In terms of BASE sticks, personally I find that the SuperNatural in particular feels nicely dampened with the XS blade.

Thanks, considering going with a Supernatural for the next stick.

Is Base going to come out with any new curves?  They never progress even with the max height option they talked about on the blog.

  7. Do you have fitment issues lengthwise?

IIRC I always noticed the warrior blade hosel was smaller going into a Bauer shaft.  This was for the tapered version, but I could fixed the voids by a layer of tape.  Looks like you have the opposite combination where the Bauer blade has a little bit extra material.  I bet that blade would fit into a Bauer shaft.

I have a opportunity to buy some LS edge holders with step black steel second hand but in good condition but after reading  this thread I am having second thoughts.

Will all LS edge holders eventually end up with this problem?
Need some advice before I drop some decent coin on them.

From what I understand this was a problem initially when LS edge came out, which hasn't been a problem in years.  I read this thread but still got them 2.5 years ago on my True skates and haven't had an issue.
