  1. I got the skates baked Tuesday night and then used them in my game last night. It went better than expected for a first skate. I was most excited that I had zero pain skating in them. I can't tell if they are a smidge too big or if I need to lace them a bit tighter but they did feel a little loose while skating. My ankle and heel is defintely locked in but they still feel loose in a weird way. The increased forward lean wasn't too hard to get used to. Transitions feel a little awkward right now but I'm hoping that goes away. They feel great in stride and I feel like I can get up to speed a little faster. Turning and stuff feels no different to me. Honestly the transition from hi-lo to a straight 80 frame has been pretty easy and I've been in the skates less than an hour. My only complaint is that I wish the chassis was mounted a little farther back on the boot. I like my toes to be a little more over the front wheels than they are with these. The Dynasty 3 wheel is a little soft for me at 200lbs but I think it helps that they are all 80mm wheels. I plan on switching to the addictions or something a tad harder when I need new wheels. I might even consider just replacing the middle two. I have had a lot of compliments on these. I think I'm the first guy at my rink to have any of the newer RPD line of skates. I've seen a handful of others with last years stuff but it's mostly Bauer/Mission and the rest Tour. Overall quality is great and I just can't believe the level of comfort I have already in the short time I've spent in them. I think the pros far out weigh the cons. And at the end of the day if I don't like the boot I just might keep the frame and mount it on something else but I don't think that's going to be the case.
  2. Just got my skates today. Out of the box fit is pretty good. I'm most excited to find the heel feels plenty wide enough that I won't have the pain I was afraid of. Going to take them up to my hockey shop tonight or tomorrow for a bake. Tempted to tonight so I can try them in my game tomorrow. Skate quality looks very good out of the box. Only regret might be not getting the RPD Max instead. I wish the wheels were a little more red than pink but as soon as they are dead I'm going to use something else anyways.
  3. Ordered a pair of the RPD Shift skates tonight. Should have them in a week or so then need to get to my local shop for a bake then to try them out. I'm really looking forward to how these do.
  4. I recently picked up a pair of the RPD comp pants and so far I'm very very happy with them. They are very lightweight which I like and breathe pretty darn well. One of my other favorite parts is just how much flexibility and stretch the material of the pants have. I'm a guy that tapes my pants to my shin guards near the bottom and also a little below the knees. These things have enough stretch that I can wear them exactly as I want without ever feeling like they are restricting motion (I've had that issue in the past with other pants). I'll see how they hold up over time but I'm not really that tough on pants. I am a big fan of white pants though so we'll see how they resist getting dirty and how well they clean up.
  5. Pretty sure I'm going to just end up getting the current shifts and if the new ones are that much better I'll worry about in then.
  6. Now I don't know what to do. Just about to pull the trigger on some RPD shifts but now wondering if I shouldn't wait. I don't skate enough to warrant new skates every year.
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I think it sounds like 8.5 is the way to go. With my Supremes I feel like I could be down in a 7.5 and they'd fit perfectly. I also wear thick socks and I'd like to move to something a bit thinner.
  8. Finally got to try my RPD team pants last night and I love them. Super lightweight and the elasticity in the material means they never feel like you're restricted in any way.
  9. I currently have a size 8ee bauer supreme one80. Would I want a 8,8.5 or 9 in the alkali skate? I wear a size 10 shoe.
  10. I've asked this before with no real response.....how is the heel fit on these skates? More like the Bauer Vapor or Supreme? I ask because my foot just can't do the Vapor like fit.
  11. Thanks. Can someone answer my question about the way the heel fits on these? If they are anything like the Bauer Vapor line there is no way they'll work for me. If they are more like the Supreme line then I'll be fine
  12. How does the heel area fit on these when compared to the Vapor or Supreme line of Bauer skates. Are these a more narrow heel or a nice wide round heel like the Supreme? Also is the movement chassis available for purchase individually?
  13. Treatment is find different skates that work for your foot. My first go at. Bauers were a vapor x5.0 and they were bad within 3-4 skates. Switched over to the supreme line and like magic no more pain and what little bump I could see starting to form is now gone. The supreme heel is more rounded in shape which works for my wide heels. I've since tried on a nexus boot and while not as bad as the vapor I can still feel the same pressure on my heel and I know they would be a problem too
  14. On both pairs of skates I've done all of the holes up front have been redrilled as they line up completely differently. Out back several of the holes are close and I want to say one of them on the inside of the foot actually overlapped the existing hole. In this case I basically just made an oval hole. Not completely ideal but I haven't had any issues yet. One of these days soon I plan to fill the old holes with epoxy. For now they are just open. I check them out before every game and so far no issues with anything coming loose. I've tried on quite a few pairs of skates and can't find a currently available roller boot that's as comfortable for my foot as the Supremes and that's using a used pair of skates from someone else's foot. I can't wait to see how they do when I buy a brand new pair.
  15. You could sometimes get close in the rear and possibly reuse one hole. I've done two conversions and in both cases had to drill all new holes. I haven't had any issues so far
  16. In regards to fit of the heel....would you say your skates are more like the Bauer Vapor line or Supreme line? My foot just can't do the Vapor boots but the Supremes are just about perfect. I'm probably going to grab some new skates next year and I'm looking at the RPD shift right now.
  17. I'm hoping my local store gets them in. They had a small selection of the previous generation. By the sounds of it I think the boots would work well for my foot. Also, will your movement chassis be available separately?
  18. Just finished these tonight. These will be replacing the Vapors I previously picked up. Vapor boot just didn't work for my foot. I'm really hoping these will. I opted to mount the boot a little more over the toes this time as that was something that felt off about the Vapor setup I made. Bauer Supreme One80 that I scored off eBay for under $75. They show obvious cosmetic wear but other than that in pretty good shape. If these work out well I plan to but a brand new pair in the near future to convert again. If these don't work out I think I just can't wear Bauer boots. So far just tossing them on my feet they feel better than the Vapor boot and just looking at the heel area it shows a little more room which is what I really need. I'll be trying them out Wednesday night.
  19. Just scored a pair of Supreme One.8 off eBay for real cheap. They have some cosmetic wear but for the price I won't complain at all. I'm hoping these will be better for my foot than the Vapors I have now. I will eventually buy some skates brand new once I find what works for me but for now I'm happy paying 20% of the original cost to try some new skates out. I'm hoping to pull off this conversion a little more quickly than the last and going to try and mount the chassis so I'm a little more over my toes than the last pair.
  20. I finally found after trying a few that the sakic/hall blade is my preference. I just got a couple of basic composite blades and so far I'm liking them a lot. Only used it a few times so I'll see how they hold up in time. At the same price point as the abs blade I'll take the composite all day long. I also have a few of the middle of the line jerseys and I like them a lot. For $9 after the coupon it can't be beat. The pucks make great practice pucks as well although I too prefer the IDS puck and that's what my indoor league uses as well.
  21. ^those look awesome. I'm wondering if the supreme line of boots wouldn't work better for my foot. From the sounds of it they would but that doesn't mean the heel pocket is much better. I ordered myself a bunga pad for my right foot to see if it helps. If it doesn't do much good I think I will be selling these skates as trying again with something different.
  22. I had another game last night and while I feel like I'm a lot faster and have a much stiffer boot on my foot the discomfort in my heel is starting to bother me more. I did some looking and this seems to be what people often refer to as the "bauer bump" or Haglund's deformity. I feel like I'm already at the early stages and it's not getting any better. It seems like the boot fits my foot very well but it's something in that heel area giving me lots of irritation. My previous Tour skates did not do this at all and I was at a point where they were very comfortable and I could skate for hours in them. At this point I'm almost tempted to just stay in them. I'm loosing some performance but at least my feet aren't killing me. My concern is that even if I go try on a bunch of different skate I don't think I'll know about this irritation until I actually start to skate. Just trying the Bauer's on my feet feel great. Could some of it simply be the pitch of the boot and and not being over my toes enough like my current skates?
  23. Skated in these Saturday morning and made a few changes that helped. Heel lift was awesome and then I also put some foam tape under the heel of my insole and I think it got the pitch just right and they feel more natural. I'd still like to reposition the chassis back so that I'm more over the front wheels but it would require putting another set of holes in the outsole and I think it's just too much. I'm making a note to do that on the next pair. These were my trial skates and started as a used pair. I'd like to get some new skates early next year and the Supreme line is on my list. They were actually higher on my list than the vapors but the deal on the vapors was too good to pass. One other thing I tried and that seemed to fix my heel lift issue was skating barefoot. Seemed to work like a charm. No slipping heel and no real discomfort. Didn't think it would work so well but it seems to be great.
