  1. Guess I'll post an updated one; it's been a while! Helmet: Easton E600 w/ CCM FM480 Shoulder: CCM U+ 08 Elbow: CCM RBZ 130 Glove: Sher-Wood BPM 120 custom Pants: Bauer Supreme TotalOne Shin: Reebok 5k Skate: Graf Supra G535S Stick: BASE Nasty R (BC27 Kovalev / Senior 75 flex / Grip Powder Matte shaft / Naked blade / XS blade flex), and soon: BASE LT Bag: Warrior Pro
  2. Of course! Keep an eye out for an upcoming post about the LT on the BASE Hockey blog.
  3. Stephen would have more information than me, since he's been using the stick for a while now. I spoke to him about it, and he said he absolutely loved it. I'm looking forward to trying it myself soon! It is indeed our lightest stick ever, which some players will appreciate. Only way to know for sure though is to try it out! Malkin, like many pros, has tweaked his pattern over his career. I recall hearing that he once grabbed Derrick Pouliot's stick stick to get out of a slump, and that stick was a P88 curve. Scored two goals with it in the first game, so he probably switched to a P88 after that. His original pattern is what we have on file though, and that's a closed toe curve with not much rocker.
  4. Haven't tried the Hossa yet, but I've handled the blade in person. The Hossa is more open at the toe, and it doesn't have the heel kink that the Kovalev has. Unlike the Kovalev, it's completely straight until you get to the toe area, where the curve starts. The Kovalev lie is hard to pin down because of the huge rocker and long length. You can play it like a lie 5 by using a longer stick and stickhandling at the heel, or like a lie 6 by cutting your stick and using the toe more. The middle is somewhere in between (5.5 ish).
  5. It's a lie 6 - I'll have to inquire about reps around Minneapolis.
  6. If you're a righty, you should try the BC06 Turk. It's like a toned-down Lidstrom - very flat and relatively closed.
  7. The Kovalev is quite different. The rocker is more extreme: while the P28 has a relatively flat rocker on the heel with a more rockered toe, the Kovalev has an aggressive rocker from heel to toe. Also, the Kovalev is a lot longer than the P28. It's also not as open or as deep as the P28, and while the P28's curve starts gradually from the middle and curves smoothly all the way into the toe, the Kovalev has two distinct 'kinks': one at the heel and one at the toe. I wouldn't say the P28 has a mild heel wedge - it's straight in the heel until about mid-blade. Overall, the only real similarity they share is that they both have a pocket at the toe. I have played both, and I would say that the Kovalev feels more forgiving for stickhandling and heel shooting. I prefer the Kovalev, but the P28 is very playable for me as well.
  8. For those of you interested in the Kovalev/Perron pattern, here's my review of the curve! I've been using it on a Perron pro stock OPS. In short, it's surprisingly playable for something so unusual. The more I use it, the more I like it.
  9. Hey there's always potential to bring any curve to retail, as long as there's enough interest! It worked for the BC14 Shanahan, and it's looking pretty good for the Kovalev/Perron (although we do need a few more orders). If you can find enough like-minded P46 fans, I don't see why it couldn't happen.
  10. So I recently made an impulse buy and picked up a Perron OPS with the same pattern as BASE is looking at producing. Stay tuned for a comprehensive review, but I can tell you all right now that this pattern is deceptively user-friendly. Hopefully we get a few more orders so we can start producing the moulds!
  11. Saw a Perron pro stock Ribcor at my LHS the other day and snapped some pics. Also put a Kreps twig next to it for comparison. Definitely an interesting curve!
  12. Great pics, Stephen. Such a unique and beautiful pattern. I'm looking forward to trying it! The extreme rocker and length should be interesting, to say the least. I was thrilled at how well the Shanahan project worked out, so hopefully we'll get the same level of success with this pattern (and many more in the future)! The more patterns we have available, the better.
  13. UPDATE: We should be receiving our Shanahan sample blade tomorrow, at which time it will be digitized and we'll start producing the moulds. The first orders should be delivered in around 6 weeks!
  14. Yeah it sucks, but I guess it was bound to happen eventually since we're the only manufacturer that still offered it. I really wanted to try a stick with PF but I'm more than happy with Grip Powder Matte. It's like Warrior's velvet grip, but a bit nicer. While the velvet grip peels in my experience, the GPM has held up very well so far.
  15. Our Polar Fibre supplier has stopped producing the material, so we're currently looking for another supplier. Unfortunately it's possible that we will no longer offer it.
  16. The "classic closed mid-toe" I was referring to is the new Shanahan. I think the heel on our sample isn't as short as the Kane Pro I posted, but the curve is essentially the same.
  17. Here's a pic of the blade shape for reference: I'm 90% sure that our samples are lie 6.
  18. Okay so I talked to Ron Kunisaki, the president of BASE Hockey, and he's willing to make two moulds of the carbon P10 Shanahan (one left-handed and one right-handed) if we have enough people who are serious about ordering. These would be our premium moulds, which are built to last, so the curve would be made available to the public for any future orders as well.
  19. Okay so here are some pics of the two P10 Shanahan curve blades we have at our Vancouver office. The wooden one is the older pattern, with a deeper curve. The composite one is the newer and shallower pattern equivalent to the Bauer P10 and Kane and Giroux' pro stock curves. Let us know which one you prefer, as there is a good possibility that we'll start offering a Shanahan pattern sometime in the near future, and we need to decide which one. First the newer pattern: Next, the older curve:
  20. Yeah the Grip Powder Matte, sorry. So true. Manufacturers use buzzwords like "premium 12k weave" to market their higher end products, but many pro sticks use 3k or a different weave. Different weaves produce different results, and any can be used to manufacture a high-end stick. Once again (as always), it boils down to preference and feel.
  21. I think that makes sense - people are nostalgic about curves that they used to use but can't get anymore. That's the advantage of our production model: we don't have any pressure to ditch a certain curve or flex as soon as it decreases in popularity, since everything is factory direct. No SKUs to cut down on, no overstock to put on clearance.
  22. I just used it this morning (on my SuperNatural and Nasty) and yeah, it feels exactly like the velvet grip.
  23. We could probably do that if someone wanted to place an order with a custom Perron pattern, but the reason we don't have that pattern in our database yet is that no one has made such an order. There is the possibility that BASE could get a new Perron mould in order to offer a "stock" Perron/Kovalev curve without anyone custom ordering it, but that would be based on demand, which would have to outweigh the cost of the new mould. That's why I want to get as much feedback as possible on curves (and other products or features) that you guys would like to see!
  24. We have a 55 (or even 45) flex intermediate, so that might work for you. They are 3 inches shorter than a standard 60" senior. As for standardizing flex - that would be ideal, but different manufacturers measure flex in different ways, and with all the competition, it would be hard to standardize that across the board. I have inquired about this, as it would be an interesting customization feature, but I haven't gotten a definitive answer yet. I will keep you posted. I'll inquire and get back to you on that.
