  1. Hey @JR Boucicaut do you still do Mako conversions? I moved to Brooklyn and given the limited access to ice rinks I'm interested in trying inline. I have a pair of Mako IIs that I'm not using -- they did have some issues with rivets getting loose quickly (though the holders never felt lose themselves). I'm wondering if I'd have the same challenge with the inline holder or if it can be mitigated somehow during the conversion. PM me if you want to take conversation off board and coordinate Mako conversion if that is something we can arrange.
  2. The heal lock is hardly an issue, just noted that it could be a bit tighter. I thought I'd seen posts about taking off the extendon guard and heating the back of the heal and then squeezing it for a few minutes. If that's not advisable I'd just as soon leave it the way it is.
  3. I had sent in my Makos in about 8 weeks ago and they ended up sending me the new Mako IIs in a 0.5 size smaller (per my request). Took 2 months because the new Mako IIs were on back order, but waiting seems to have been worth it. Took them out for a spin on Monday, feel a lot different than my S12s which I'd been using for two months (off and on, while dealing with an injury). Really liking the fit but considering having the heal pinched a little to help with the heal lock.
  4. Really, they do? Perhaps they haven't updated their website documentation, but what I'm seeing is that they continue to only produce Step Steel for RB2: http://stepskates.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/StepSkatingBlades_HockeySizingChart.pdf
  5. Possibly the two edges on the blade are uneven or the steel was bent somehow since you last played? I'm not familiar with FBV so I'm not certain if uneven edges can occur similarly to standard sharpening. My LHS always uses a little gadget to double check the blades are even after the sharpening.
  6. Unless I'm mistaken, the liner you're referring to -- is this the footbed? That shouldn't be bonded to the skate and is replaceable or upgradable. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding you though.
  7. Ok, so my little Mako saga has a new wrinkle. I'm currently waiting for my Mako IIs in size 7.5D to arrive from Easton as part of a warranty replacement for my original Makos. Because I've been without my skates for a month and reading this page over and over, I got this idea in to my head that I may have been better off with 7.0Ds. So I called up my LHS and they offered to lend me their demo pair of 7.0Ds including baking them. So we baked them and I took them out for a skate over the weekend (24 hrs later of course). Here is what I observed: My left foot seemed to fit perfectly in the skate. Could just about barely touch the toe cap. It was there, but no pressure or anything. My right foot touched the toe cap and seemed to be tight around the widest part of the foot. When I skated my toes would push up against the toe cap at times during my stride. I don't know if this was due to lack of heel lock, but it was nearing on uncomfortable... I'm not anywhere near a skate fit expert, but I'm concerned about this level of contact. The LHS employee also noted during the bake that the right boot appeared to be lacing up poorly around the wide part of my foot. All-in-all, I THINK this size is just a bit too small for my right foot and that I should settle back in to my 7.5Ds which seemed to be a good fit. As an aside, I can't reach the toe cap in my 7.5Ds.
  8. Also, can anyone shed light on why Easton's website doesn't include any Mako II info and an out-of-date Mako page? Or am I just using the internet wrong?
  9. To be clear, should there be really any difference in boot fit? My impression has been they're identical in design with differences in materials used.
  10. Baking before buying is a thing? Neither of my two LHS in Madison have indicated that would be allowed... Is there concern about the amount of times a pair might be baked before going home with someone?
  11. It's comments like this and others ("I could barely get my foot in the skate prior to baking it") that make me think my pair could be 0.5 too large. I went from Easton S12s in size 8.5D to Makos in size 7.5D. I tried on the 7.0s but my toes touched the front of the boot (I don't recall if it was more upward contact or forward contact with the front end). As mentioned above, my 7.5s are being looked at for warrenty concerns, but I wonder if there is any possibility of moving down to 7.0 or if this is necessary. I tighten my Makos pretty tightly right now. No concern about looseness until the end of a 1.5 skate, where I notice I could retighten, but that seems more of a normal issue than a boot fit issue, right?
  12. No indication that it would be a delayed process? I think my LHS sent them in on the 7th, not certain when I'd be receiving anything back (old or new). You know how long the process should reasonably take?
  13. I wonder how that will impact my warrenty issue... Is Easton Canada different than what my LHS in Wisconsin would be working with to address my skate problems? Curious, as far as stock goes
  14. Hey jimmy, what are the cons to higher levels of fiberglass as opposed to carbon? Is it as simple as a weight factor? I sent my Makos in for warrenty work and the LHS indicated they're probably just going to be replaced by Easton. I'm a little concerned Easton would replace the originals with M8s since I keep hearing they're nearly the same skate.
