My son, who just turned 5 in July, starts beginner hockey this Sunday. Not sure who is more excited...him or me. (yes I do...me)
I was selected as one of the coaches starting mid September
He gets 3 hours of ice each week.....which means....... I get 3 more hours of ice a week!
There are few everyday things I get more enjoyment from, than watching my kids play hockey....and skating with them. Equal to, or even better than, going out on the lake in the boat....and probably as expensive...

I wish I could say that we had awesome travel opportunities for women's hockey here, but it is really a work in progress. They tried to get U12, U14, U16 and a U19 team, I believe.....but ended up with a U12 and U19. (there is a GREAT adult women's team as well)
Most girls just end up playing on boys(co-ed) teams. We have a U12 girls team that competes in a U10 boys(co-ed) House League.
I think female hockey is gaining steam here, but I hear from the powers that be, it's counted "One girl at a time".... Tough balance/decision, competition level playing with boys vs the benefits of playing with all girls.

^^^ Are these co-ed teams or girls only(my daughter travels with both)?
They're working out travel plans for the U12 Girls team as I type. Going to the Aspen Fall Face Off and then who knows.

Been a fun weekend! LM('96)had a great time at University of Utah training camp, the LO('05) had a great tryout with her U12 girls team & her U11 Soccer won their first game in the Fall Premier League.
So ready for regular hockey season... Let's travel!
LO will play with the U10 boys and U12 girls.

Had a gear dump yesterday, some nice stuff(for my son). Mostly just practice gear, bags, gloves, warm-ups, swag type stuff. Still more to come, but this was fun to go through. Off to training camp today(on a bus for 9 hours) in fact Ive been getting texts as they travel. Apparently he(all the new guys) have already been signed Rookie Duties from the coaches, which include transportation of speakers, skate sharpener, tape boxes, water bottles and pucks to and from every practice. Fun last 2 days.

Heh, he'd get a call from the equipment police real quick if he were in the NHL... I've heard of guys pulling their jerseys up on their elbow pads but not uncovering them completely! :)
Yea, not sure what he's going for there...it's a new look for him(last few months)... Kids nowadays...

Son leaves in little over a week to training camp with the University of Utah hockey team(ACHA). So excited to see how it shakes out, he plays. Equal amounts proud, excited, anxious.

Just moved to Jr. sized sticks for the LO.... Always said sticks are the one jimmy kick in equipment for parents. YTH sticks are so stinking cheap, would buy them on a whim, even when she didn't need a new one...Jr....whole new ball game, just nominally less than her brothers twigs.

Crippling back pain.
As far as personal injury/pains, there is nothing worse than the back....no escape from it.

Happy to have the site back up! Since my previous pics were lost, figured I'd post a few again...
The Little One's(she's an '05) Squirt A team had a nice year, pulling three banners for the year. Here is the second...well, the trophy of the second.
This is her big brother('95) after he scored to put them up in their second to last playoff game of the season. They won, but were knocked out the next round.
This is the Little One on her girls team(PeeWee), they had a fun year. Were not as successful as her boys team, but she really likes her time with the girls.
Though not an exciting photo, love the turnout the kids would get at home games.
GOAL!!!
Getting a shot off from the point...
Last, but not least....both kids like to get out on the ponds....

Feeling super Proud Pappa today, as my daughter was named a captain(A) on her U10 Squirt travel team. It would not be so much a talent or leadership level that I questioned if she’d get the nod, I assumed there was a solid possibility. I very much thought she would fill the post well, she’s a natural leader and is one of their best players, usually the kid coaches have demonstrate drills/power skating. But being an '05, first year U10 (though she played for this team last year) & the only girl on the team, I wondered of the boys would vote her in(silent vote).
It was announced last night and she was on cloud 9, which maybe is the best part, her excitement and pride. We had a nice celebratory dinner. Now time to wear it right.
