  1. I got nine hours of ice time out of my first sharpening...could have gone longer but wanted fresh edges for our first league game. Edges seem to last at least as long as my old grinds used to...maybe even longer since the bite is increased and I don't feel the need to strap up fresh steel every few skates to compensate...
  2. Update on my experience with the FBV: I have about six skates on the FBV and am still in love. Still on the first set of steel and edges seem to be holding up well...still getting the enhanced glide...still loving the enhanced bite in corners and crossovers. Easier to keep up with guys that prior were a touch faster than me..... I am still sold on the concept. As to the need to adjust.....to me it was not a big difference beyond more of what you want...less of what you don't....the only thing that took getting used to was realizing I could be more aggressive in cornering and acceleration.
  3. I was driving across TO today on 401 so went to OTG's Concord location and had my kids and my skates done. He's in Peewee, big game tonight......and can't believe his dad is messing with his equipment before a game :o Guess its same as MSH'ers not wanting to try it in a game, hope he adjusts quick. He could honestly adjust in pre-game warm up in my opinion. The only thing he would adjust to is being able to push harder and skate more aggressively..at least in my opinion. Like I said..took me about 10 mins and I felt 100% comfortable.
  4. I just got off the ice after my first skate on FBV blades. I had Bob at No Icing do them to what Bob says equates to roughly a 2" glide and 5/8 bite. I am really impressed. Excellent glide and then you roll into a turn and "boom" you just stick. I seriously could not get an edge to lose grip (and I was trying to at the end of the session) and was pulling off ridiculous turns even after the ice degraded badly. JR has it right...crunch crunch crunch as you power through a turn and then "bam" you are gliding far better than any 5/8ths regular grind I have ever had. The poor ice surface did not even phase me one bit - the blades just dug in and gripped like crazy but only when I needed it. Took about 10 minutes to get used to the feeling so transferring over is not a big deal. Stopping was actually more "positive" than with my old grind. Huge confidence increase. I honestly feel like I have never skated better. I told Bob - its the Holy Grail of Sharpening. I'm stoked off my gourd and will not go back to a regular grind again.
