  1. With the technology and manufacturing processes used nowadays, any big brand stick will be great, no matter the price. Just go to your LHS and browse the clearance rack for bauer, ccm, easton, and warrior sticks. Also look online.

Sometimes you can find composite sticks for less than wood.

  2. I also find oversized shin pads a problem. I went to my LHS to try some pads on the other day. I found that I barely wore size 14, and I’m 5’8’’. Are you sure you were fitted correctly? I know Supremes do have the largest “look” to them. Maybe try 13” in a different brand, or 14” in a different brand/line.

I’ve noticed the only way to actually stop the problem is to get taller. Which, if you’re like me, probably isn’t gonna happen anytime soon.

  3. I was looking at the hockey monkey new arrivals and saw these new sticks that monkey sports is manufacturing. The fact that they are coming factory direct makes the high end SL priced at only $149 USD, marketed as 415 grams with a mid kick this product could be a steal. They also sell a ST version for $89 weighing 495 grams and a XT version for $59 at 590 grams. I imagine they stand for Super Light(SL), Super Tough(ST), and Extra Tough(XT).

It will be interesting to see the balance and pop on these new sticks and if people will be picking any up.

  4. If he’s a skinny/slim build go for the 1x/1x lite. If he’s on the muscular side (doesn’t even have to be bulky just broad shouldered) go for a nexus. However the nexus I recommend are the nexus 8000 pads. Hands down the most comfortable, protective and mobile pads I’ve used. Not that the 2n pads are bad but I don’t think they make nexus pads with 37.5 liner. 1n pads have massive shoulder caps that could block mobility. The nexus line has the 2 piece bicep guard which is great. Sideline swap has some. You should be able to pick up a new pair for less that $100 no problem.

  5. I don’t think shows like shark tank would help. The products on those shows are geared toward everyone, not just a niche of hockey players that are looking for something new and exciting in sticks. They wouldn’t understand what makes the product more useful/better (and who knows if it even is).

I think selling it to a brand is a good idea but I don’t think Bauer/CCM/Warrior would just flat out well a stick like this. It would end up like the OD1N project and have features trickle down through the years.

  6. I don’t work at a hockey shop but I’ve tried on both skates. The features missing from the 2s pro are minor. The most noticeable are the speed plate 2.0s (which you can buy seperate for $50) and LS5 steel (which you can buy for $110) Other than that the 2s is missing ankle comfort padding, adjustable flex tendon guard and the new tongue (which I didn’t like personally). The skate has the same boot, outsole and liner construction. They even weigh the same—810 grams in size 9D according to ice warehouse.

I’d recommend buying the 2s skates, LS5 steel, and Speedplates separately. It would cost like $760 so $140 less than 2s pros and they’ll have a extra set of steel.

  7. I’m only 17, but I have needed visual aids since I was 6. I used glasses under my helmet till I was like 12, after that I wore contacts all day. I don’t have any problems with dry eyes; however, one of my teammates does and he uses these https://mobile.lens.com/contact-lenses/dailies-total-1/ they’re daily disposables. He says they helped. You may want to ask your eye doctor which brand/model will work best for your eyes because they come with different water contents.

I'm tentative to do too much scuffing to it because its literally just the gel pad. Its the little pad that covers the tensioner at the back on the Reebok 11K. There's no backing on it, just the clear gel pad.

You could try using a spray adhesive then put some sand/grit in it, this should act like the scuffing without actually wearing at the pad.

  9. I’ve tried on the 2s pro and tacks As1 skates. I found the As1 to be more comfortable and stiff; however, you may benefit from the new 2s pro tongue with the moldable inserts and pads as far as lacebite goes. Go try both and walk around for at least 10 minutes with the skates as tight as you can get them. Whichever fits best consider getting custom.

  10. Yeah depending on your age I don’t recommend lasik. If your in your 20s the lasik will fade by the time your 40-50. If your older it’s not as serious as you’ll be older by the time it fades and it usually does naturally anyway. It’s worth mentioning you can get glasses after it fades though.

They’re a special run or limited run that uses the Alpha build model with the old AK graphics. I have two, great sticks! Not quite as good as the Alpha QX (though it’s lighter) but much better than the Alpha QX Pro. I thought they were a steal at $179 when they were released.

What makes them worse than the qx?
