The whole "Easton/Bauer/CCM" oven is a misnomer.  They're all the same oven with their respective logos.

There's no difference other than aesthetics.

The differing ovens are the ones like Bladmaster and the ones where you can adjust the temperature

The original Bauer ovens were more like the Blademaster version. A number of my local shops still have the older version.

  2. A buddy of mine borrowed my Mesa Roadster and fell in love with it and I had to sell it to him. Fortunately, a store just down the road had a Road King that had been sitting on the floor for a while. This thing has a ridiculous number of options. Four channels, twelve modes, two effects loops and close to a dozen tubes. You can run any combination of tubes at the same time on different channels.

Trying to get used to the 9-5 thing for the first time in about 15 years and I'm getting worn down.

I seem to be asking the wrong questions for the answers I'm getting as well. This is not going well at all. I thought my streak of bad luck was coming to an end, but I may have been premature in that assessment.

  4. Yeah, the travel sucks. I had been thinking about getting out of that for a while and just found out today that I was offered a job in a different department. A little late to address some of the things that were going on, but it keeps me from having to go back on the road. And in the spirit of the topic, it's a pay cut.

  5. Rinks here are public, and the leagues rent out the time. The rink won't really do anything or have any say in the matter.

The league doesn't care, and they have lost about 20 teams to a new league forming up. If we withhold payment we simply lose our games.

The only thing that would make a difference would be getting a lawyer involved and the players this has happened to do not want to do that, if this happened to me a couple of this video and others would have been handed over to the police and a lawyer as well as being sent out to any hockey blog or news site I could think of.

But remember this is a hockey setting, so doing anything besides letting it happen on the ice is the "pussy" way out.

If they don't care about things like this, then you need to bail on the league too. Like I said, the guys that I play with wouldn't tolerate something like that. Sadly, it sounds like the best option is to just walk away from the league or team.

  6. If someone did that to one of our players, the bench would have emptied. Rinks like to assume that you will keep coming back, no matter what they do. If you, and others, feel that this individual has no place in the league, I would tell the rink that you will not have a team if that individual is back next season. Get it in an email or writing, so you can withhold payment if they violate the agreement. I would even consider speaking to a local lawyer (someone on the team has to know one) to see if it is worth pressing assault charges on that guy. You could at least potentially prevent him from playing against you.

  7. Chadd, were you planning on staying in the X/75 scale? Just curious which spinner you were thinking of going down to, 85/75 or 80/75? I'm in the same boat, I'm on 90/75 and have thought about going a little more shallow but don't know which one. I skated on the 100/50 once and I didn't care for the edge bite and I love the 90/75 edges, great glide and I can turn as hard as I want and have never lost an edge. I'm about 5'-9" and 200 lbs.

I wouldn't go more than one step at a time, it's a pretty significant change

  8. They can't say that you were out to get them if you set the ground rules before the game and let them know what the standard will be. If you don't tell the captain anything before the game and just call it at a stricter standard than the previous game then they will have a beef.

We have obviously not had the same experiences in beer league hockey. The teams that act like he has described in my area are full of guys looking for any reason to complain. Referring to past behavior would absolutely guarantee complaints before you even drop the puck and around here it would mean a phone call within a couple days, maybe even a written report. I'm all for setting ground rules, and would be up front about the previous game with my partner in the locker room, but there is no way that I would reference the previous game or the standard used at that time. Just off the top of my head, there are at least half a dozen themes that certain guys and teams would use throughout the game.

  9. In that case, if you get that team again then grab the captain before the game and let him know that you shouldn't have to and will not tolerate the events of the last game again. That way when you sent the first guy off early in the game they'll know that you mean business and should learn their lesson. Sometimes as refs we can be our own worst enemies when we shrug off too much stuff early in a game. Set the standard early in the game and be consistent. If that doesn't work then they can enjoy the parade.

Around here, saying something like that before the game will turn into "you were out to get us" before you even drop the puck. I used to tell both captains before a game that I tended to call the game tight but I would be happy to answer any question that didn't start out "what the F...?" but it wouldn't be a discussion. If they wanted to do that, we could do it between periods.
