The machine will be sold with the current holder, however there will be an upgrade available. Unfortunately we can't sell the machine for that price with the tri-lie. However it is a great holder and for those that can upgrade to it its a nice option. On another note we had a great time at the World's in Switzerland it was fun to see the FBV going around the different nations. We should have some more fun tomorrow, as we will be providing the sharpening at www.niagarapro.ca. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the players that I watched while I was growing up. Steve

Actually I think that San Jose does but it is going to be an interesting playoff.

Sounds like you need to hand hone. It should feel razor sharp. Give it a nice hone to keen the edge.

That's an article you will never see in the US. Good balance but it's a shame the writer wasn't able to offer his impressions of the FBV. The author is a goalie...he's also a beat writer for the Bulldogs...If I run into him at a Dogs game I'll ask him if he's used it yet, and what he thinks of it. He actually had it put on his kids skates and I guess it worked out.

Both my goalies are on the 90/50 and in fact both said there was to much bite (they were on 7/8ths before) So I just robbed the back 2/3rds past the toe with a little steel wool and they love it. The can do the skating drills without being as tired. That and the bite on the toe is better for sliding across. Both goalies are going to be on scholarships one in the US and one in Canada so they are pretty damn good goalies. I also did one that plays in the OP and he had a 3/8ths before and I did them at 100/75 and he just went nuts when he got on the ice. said the bite was way better than a normal 3/8ths and the glide was awesome and he skates ALOT when playing! There you go.......One of the things that the study said was there will be a conversion to the fbv, than people will be able to slowly move to a performance fbv. Not to confuse anyone however there are fbv's that we are developing that will even inhance more than the few that we have now. The issue is that everyone has a comfort level that they skate on whether it be a fbv or a roh and if you make a drastic change the fbv will more than likely not work because you exit your comfort level. In the test they tried a certain fbv that made them feel very fast and the players felt they were out of control. This was interesting because you would think that they would like the speed. I think that over time a person could get use to different type's of fbv's and taylor it to their game.

I actually just got off of a conference call with the Professor who is doing a study and the engineer who designed the FBV. According to his study (the prof.) the performance between the regular ROH grind and the FBV grind it would benifit all skaters. The trick is to find out what works for you. (it is actually fastinating on what he found out) What I would recomend based on the expierience(s) that we have is to try the 90/75 to convert over and than experiment from there. We will be working with some elite golies in the near future so hopefully I will have some better feedback for you.

Hey Bob, found it to be opposite. People (NHL) find that the 100/75 has a significant bite. Hope it helps. Good story about your friend. It didnt help me against them either.

Call the office tomorrow and get help with measurements to recalibrate the holder. Ask for cory in the back he will give you the measurements and get you squared back up.

Don't worry guys this is the part that sepperates skate sharpeners. stop using the back pitch knob and just use the two front adjustment knobs to make the holder go up and down. Another tip is the center of the wheel is not necessarily what you are lining up to. You need to line up to the apex of the radius of the dresser. The only way to do this is to sharpen the skate use the guage that tells you how much your off or on, and make the appropriate adjustments. It is a learning curve and it won't take long before you are doing it in your sleep.

As JR said it was developed because of the spinner. We have been working on the FBV for sometime now.

Just finnishing up dealing with the west coasters and getting tucked in!
-
Approximately a 2" ROH for glide and a 5/8 hollow for cutting.
-
Actually there is testing being done at the University of Ottawa. The results have not been handed to us yet however the Professor who is doing the testing said they were very positive results. Similar to what people are finding who are using it. When we get more qualitative results I will post it.

I'm a good Catholic so if you find it I want in on the action.

I was thinking of starting a different string for the same reason. We are in the process of developing a Website that will answer all of the conversion's I know it is like learning a new language but the best I can tell you is that more bite does not mean less glide when it comes to the FBV. That is what is so cool about it. Site should be up pretty soon I will post it asap. It ended up that I had to leave the prototype 90/75 spinner behind because he did not want to go back to an 1.5 roh. SAK - thanks for the reply. Please excuse my ignorance here but did Cory make the same switch, to a FBV 5/8"? Yes, It took him about 10 min of practice and he was happy that he had bite and the glide. He was having fun making the tight turns that you can do with a "deep" ROH.

I was wondering if anybody else had experienced the "chattering" on their stops because I noticed my son's blades doing the same thing, and he is using the 1/2" equivalent. I had thought maybe to go to the 5/8", but he wants to try the 1/2" one more time first. Maybe a stupid question, but has anybody else noticed the burring alot more than the "normal" sharpening? His first couple games with the FBV and he has a couple bad burrs on each blade. He says he didn't hit anything with them, ie goal post or boards, so not sure why this is happening. Any suggestions? As far as the chattering goes it is to do with the bite angle. if he went to the 90/75 he would have less however he would give up the bite that he may be enjoying now. If he has nicks or "burrs" he would have picked them up from some sort of contact, as the blades are steel and would not get nicks no matter what FBV or ROH you had on the steel. Hope it helps. BTW the 100/75 is closer to a 3/8 Bite. You will actually feel slightly faster on it than the 90/75 and have more bite.

I have a bit of experience with this. The first NHL player that I worked with was Cory Stillman from Florida. He was currently at an 1.5" roh so I had the same concerns that you had. It ended up that I had to leave the prototype 90/75 spinner behind because he did not want to go back to an 1.5 roh. I'm not saying that you will experience the same however it worked out for Cory. Let me know how it works out for you.

Try the 100/75 It is now available in the mini spinner. It has more bite than the 90/75.
-
LOL I am starting to wonder myself.
-
You have to move it down. Try going on the website and going over the training video, it should also help you. You also can call the office.
-
Should be available for the end of January. Adjusting is the key to good sharpening, and is a learning curve. Don't hesitate to call and I will go over any issues, however it is like most things, once you have it it becomes routine. As far as the best sharpener goes I will give it to my father as he was my mentor.
-
lol, I here you about sucking. It also could be that you had an expectation built up. The best thing you can do is work with it and then make a decision.
-
Bob knows what he is doing. I think you should give it another go. You are correct with a shallow hollow leads to less bite however there is nothing wrong with bite with the fbv. you maybe just use to less bite because you were trying to increase speed. when you have both speed and bite you have a distinct advantage. If you can over come the bite you will be able to do moves and other things that you can't with the bite. Go on it again and see what happens. The worst thing that can happen is you decide you don't like it and get your skates sharpened on the old hollow. Which is not a bad thing, however I think you will find you like the fbv once you get use to it.
-
Who is your sharpener? There are different spinners that you can get other than the 2 that have been mentioned.
-
Yes however I would be interested as to what OTG said. You want to make sure that you have the 90/75.
