  1. I'm 6 foot tall, 230 lbs and using UCLP XL+1. I also have HP35's in XL (+0) and the 35's are clearly shorter so I'm not sure I believe that the CL's run short. My CL's are +1 and they look like they are 1" longer than my 35's. Id be leaning more towards saying they all fit similar in length.

I bought XL +1 in the CL's because I read they ran short and about an inch shorter than the HP35's.. Apparently not though. I can still use XL+1 in the CL's, I just prefer a shorter pant that sits at the top of my shin pads when I'm standing straight up - Instead of middle of the knee. It's all just personal preference I guess.

  3. Couple of updates in the last 12 months of experimentation and refinement. Not much left untouched! Lots of changes to sticks thanks to playing around with stick length. Went from short/medium length (between clavicle and chin on skates) to medium/long sticks up to my lips or nose on skates. Trying out dropping a flex this year too. Still can't settle on a blade pattern :'(

I switched to the CCM P29 curve coming from a Warrior W88 curve (clone of Bauer P88).  I'm finding it a bit tough to adjust to stickhandling with this new curve (shooting is fantastic though).  Does anyone have tips?  I feel like the P29 has a huge rocker compared to the W88/P88.  I end up trying to stickhandle on the heel of the curve.  Is that what I'm supposed to be doing?  Should I cut my stick the same length as I did with the W88/P88?  Thanks for your help.

P29 is my favourite CCM blade pattern, I always have at least one stick with it and have been using the pattern for a number of years on and off. It was a European blade for a long time before it hit the US.

I switch to and from the P88 occasionally as well so I think I know what you are talking about. IMO the P29 has a larger rocker which in my opinion makes it a bit more adaptable with the stick length you use. I personally make all my sticks the same length now regardless of rocker, curve or lie so I don't think 1-2inches shorter or longer will make too much of a difference with that blade pattern.

With that said, stick length is all personal preference, so give it a bit more of a chance and if you are still not feeling right after a few more skates with it you should consider adding or cutting an inch off and see if there is improvement. If you are too much on the heel then cutting an inch seems logical, however, adjusting your hand/arm/elbow position/mechanics will also sort that out too.

  5. So I'm considering the switch to VH from Vapor 1X. I did a search but couldn't find what I was after..

Do those of you who use Superfeet (yellow) specify this when you order and do you still use them now? I'm just curious if there are considerations made for them when you send your measurements in or if the VH process removes the need for that heel support/lift you get from superfeet.

I've been using superfeet for a very long time and every time I go without them I just don't feel right.

How comfortable is that? I would think that you would want to do both sides of the knee cap to make it more balance.

I remember seeing a couple of picture of Drew Millers Shin guards being completely beefed up with some sort of hexagon padding from top to bottom. I'll have to do some digging to see if I can find the pics.

I've seen that padding in heaps of NHL locker rooms. I'm keen to know what it is and where to get it!

Good question on the fit. In general (and i have to use this term because fit comparisons are incredibly subjective as I'm sure you know), players we tested wearing skates like yours preferred the JetSpeed EE fit, and when it came to Super Tacks there was a move to D (because Super Tacks fit slightly wider than JetSpeed).

The real question is if you like how "very snug" you are in your current skates. If you like it, i would suggest an 8.5D in Super Tacks, whereas if you would like a little more room, then opt for the 8.5EE.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info I'm trying to decide if the D width will be alright for me. I use yellow superfeet and powerfoot inserts as well if that means anything.

I've read a couple of reviews where people have said the boots seem to run a little short so they are suggesting people go up a half size? Have you heard anything like this?

Was anyone able to compare this one to the Bauer 1X? Also what is the difference in weight?

I want to know this too. I'm in a 8.5EE in the 1X, not sure what size I should order in the Super Tacks? 8.5EE in the 1X is a very snug fit for me in all aspects.

Ps. Similar situation to some, I live no where near somewhere that stocks CCM. 6+ hours drive at least.

  11. Has anyone noticed the 1N gloves seem to be slightly different on some sites? I'm talking about the "black" colour way in particular. Half the pics I see for it has black embroidered "Bauer" logo on the cuff with a white outline, others have White letters with Black outline.. Which one is actually being released to the public?? The catalog doesn't show any with full white lettering with the black gloves.

    See below;

Icewarehouse also lists/shows the Black cuff with full white lettering.

After 18 months of trying so much different gear I'm finially happy with my set now. I don't see many if any changes to protective for a while but I'm keen to check out the new RBZ/Fitlite gear when its released. I'm still trying lots of twigs at the moment to see what I like. Currently the Bauer 1N is top choice.

  16. The Pro10 Protective looks pretty good and I'm happy to see the E6 curve back on retail offering. I'm keen to see the elbows and shins, I'll also grab a E6 when my E5 breaks. Pity that the new CX sticks come with limited curve choices though so I'll need to get a CXT or CX ST.. Whats up with that?

Actually some curves are only available on certain sticks and the blade chart in the catalogue is incomplete..

  17. What'd you black out the helmet with, electrical tape?

Electrical tape and/or SportStar Vendor Cover Up Decals. Used electrical tape on the black helmet and the coverup decals on the blue one. Id suggest if you use electrical tape to use high quality otherwise it shrinks and leaves glue residue. The "proper" decals are solid however are a ilttle thick
