  1. That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming.
  2. I have a similar pronation problem as some of you here have been discussing. I moved my holders inward and that solved the problem. When I did it I used these T-Nuts and some 3/8ths bolts instead of rivets. This worked well on my grafs because the sole is pretty thick and the teeth on the t-nuts went into the sole just right. I am wondering if I could use the same method on a pair of VH skates. Are the soles thick enough? What is the inside of the sole made out of?
  3. I don't think I've ever gotten my skates sharpened to remedy dulling or whatever due to passage of time. When I get my skates sharpened it's because of nicks and damage to the edge.
  4. It's good quality steel, but that doesn't mean it won't break when you block shots with it. I have had multiple steels break over the years, and ever time it has been the result of a hard shot hitting it.
  5. I have been using Step Velocity since July, and I have never tried the regular Step, but take my word for it, the velocity version is something special.
  6. Some notes: When the steel first went on it was rockered and sharpened at 5/8's. I skated 12 hours the first week from Sunday to Thursday. I noticed a smoother feeling on the ice right away, but I got used to it and by the end of the week I could not notice it any more. It's still there though. Friday I left town to go to a camp. I had a couple bad nicks after that last week so I got them sharpened for the second time. I skated 3 hours per day all week at the camp. Now I am back from the camp, skated Monday night and still no need to sharpen again. It's been over 20 hours of ice time since my last sharpening. If you need new steel I highly recommend going with Step Velocity.
  7. Alright. I have skated on my velocity steel a few times now, and I can tell you that it is really worthwhile. It's tough to describe how it feels, but it's easy to tell you that it feels good. I highly recommend it.
  8. I just ordered some velocity steel. It's going to be a couple weeks before I skate with it, but you guys can count on a thorough evaluation once I do.
  9. Where do you play hockey? Sand and dirt in the ice? I can see where you are coming from when it comes to stuff on the rubber matting, but quite frankly that's not a big issue where I play. They bring out the Zamboni style floor scrubber every morning. Sure I step on things every once in a while, but when I do that's the nicks that I am talking about. That's when I do sharpen my skates. I am careful though. It's such a pain in the butt to replace steel and try and get them rockered properly, that I am very careful and protective of my steel. I go to great lengths to avoid getting nicks and having to sharpen all the time.
  10. Maybe I just don't notice the dulling because it's so gradual.
  11. I am not a goalie. I skate between 15 and 20 hours a week, and I get my skates sharpened on average every 10 days. Sometimes I go two weeks. It just depends on when I get a nick. Most of my ice time is as a referee. My skates are sharpened for free by a professional equipment manager, so it's not a money thing.
  12. What does "hold an edge" mean? Does it measure how long the steel stays sharp? If that's the case then I don't think it's relevant because I never get my skates sharpened due to dulling. I sharpen when I get nicks.
  13. The price is closer to $70 each, not a pair. Very tough to swallow. To some it will be worth it. I'm pretty sure it's $70 for the pair. I called them yesterday and that's what I was told.
  14. I really want to use their velocity steel next season, but at $70 a pair it's tough. Maybe we can organize a group purchase and get a good discount.
  15. I am really looking forward to this follow up. Based on your measurements Step steel is more than twice as wide as OEM. That's a pretty significant difference. edit: this is not true
  16. According to their website the diameter of their steel varies depending on which holders they are going in. The steel for TUUK C+ is 6.8mm. Lightspeed is 7.4mm. Anybody know the width of Bauer OEM steel? edit: this is not true
  17. Anybody have any experience with this company? Is their highly polished velocity steel worthwhile? I tried using the search function and I didn't find anything of use. http://www.stepskates.com/stepskates.html
