Long story short. Time for some new skates. Ive gone from Bauer Nexus 1n skates, to Supreme 3S pro skates, to Bauer Nexus 2ns in the past few years. Ive got a wide foot. Anyhow, my bauer skates fit decently but my skates are breaking down fairly quickly and I was hopign to take advantage of some year end sales. My local hockey shop has the AS-V pro's on sale. I tried them on and they feel great, and would expect that to only get better after baking. The high end Bauer skates are still over 1k so thats out of my budget but the AS-V pro's are on a really nice sale. The issue/question!? They fit great in the store, but I keep reading about the stiffness. that is one thing you cant really test out in the store. I am 6'2 and 230 lbs. Decent skater and I play in the upper end rec leagues, but nothing elite. Could the stiff boot be an issue?!? Does it break in over time?!? Is there a reason why these skates were not a great seller?!? Id love a top end skate, and they fit good in the store for my wider foot, but I am worried I would have regrets if I am on the ice and do not adapt to the boot or find it painful.

FYI. I bought a Wargate for my rec hockey playing. This year I have seen 5+ incidents of stitches and lost teeth on my one team. Guys are getting more careless with their sticks then ever. Initially I didnt love it, but after I cut off the bottom row with a dremel I got used to it. It's kind of ugly but honestly it provides just enough protection for errant pucks and sticks for my teeth. The other side of the coin is that current wait times for stitches at our local hospital start at around 4 hours! Overpriced. Deft. Its a wire cage, but it's also a unique design and they are currently the only game in town offering that solution. But honestly, since I bought one and did my mod to it, the weight doesnt bother me, and I wear it every game with extra confidence knowing that I have SOME protection. If anyone wants pictures I can provide what it looks like after my mods.

Fairly large head here. Currently using an older Bauer Re-akt helmet. LHS does NOT have a great selection of helmets in the large size for me to try out. Essentially I am playing rec hockey and am more interested in comfort and adjustability. I am rocking the half visor, with the ugly wargate lower cage for protection so my Re-akt is constantly slipping down my face. 6'2 , 230 lbs. Just curious if anybody has anything that they love in terms of comfort and ability to adjust. My issue is that my head size is right in between medium and large and I find them hard to find the perfect fit. Not worried about budget, (maybe the Super Tacks X is out) I actually tried one out and it feels cool, but they only had S and medium sizes and were too tight, but not paying 500$ + Any tips/suggestions appreciated for a guy who has limited options for trying on..... Thx

Hey guys. I have some Nexus 1n skates I have owned for a few years. They are starting to break down but I would like to get another year out of them. the stitching on the toe has come off and seperated. I took them to my local shop and the chap there suggested I try glue them. So on that note, I just want to know what glue you would recommend?! Epoxy?!? superglue?!? Thanks for any help/suggestions. Just call a call from LHS. No step steel in stock OR at the supplier. So I literally got to skate on the blades 4 times, REALLY LIKE THEM, and then have them break and be told there is no replacement. the local shop can only replace them with LS5 or lower so color me disappointed. Bummer

Im going to get them to check this (holder issues). I went in but they had no replacement step steel black. Im curious if there is by chance something in the holder that is causing a pressure point! They have a set of Marsblades on display at the counter and I may need to try them out instead 😄 Except for 400$ installed, Ive already wasted enough money this month.

Well that didnt last long. Got about 4 skates in on them and then a random pass off the blade completely destroyed it. My luck this year has been ass! Dont think they have any more in stick either :s.

I do have one curiosity though. The guys told me NOT to hone the edges, and he gave me a piece of leather to rub on the edge which I wasnt sure about. Anyone have anything they recommend for burrs and such ?

Rec player. On ice 2-3 times a week in the competitive divisions. Nothing fancy, but love to play and try out new sticks and gear. Owned 3 or 4 sets of pro stock skates the last few years and settle don 1n's 2 years ago. Like the boot. Have gone through 3 sets of LS4 steel. Cracked on me every time. Keep a spare pair of LS3's for backup. Bought and sold every stick/curve I could find, and Ive never had a game changing experience with new sticks. The other day I broke my LS4 steel on a hard pass off the feet. Great, another 100$ :s My local hockey shop Al Andersons had a young guy who said they had a few pairs of Step Steel black that were no longer being produced and he suggested I go with them or just use my LS3 steel and keep the one spare LS4 blade I had. I worked some overtime recently so I had a few bucks burning a hole in my bank account. I told him to toss in the Step Steel Black into my 1n's and I would try them out. Im on my 5th game with them so far, and I couldnt be happier. Im not sure if it is the extra blade, the radius, the "bite" if thats a thing, or whatever. But I feel more blade contact, and it gives me more confidence in my turns and I feel I have more power throughout my whole stride. The ice at my local ASHL facility SUCKS, as they are very busy and do not flood enough or let the ice sit after floods to let it settle. But with these skates I have more confidence to dig into hard turns. Once in a while I enjoy comign to the forums to read whats going on with gear so I figured I would toss out a quick post to anyone who hasnt tried this stuff out yet. Compared to the Bauer Steel, i notice a positive difference!! Oh, and after 5 skates, they still have a great edge on them. I am curious to know when I will need to sharpen!
