UPS slew footed me today.  Ordered the Little One a new bucket today, hers has been hurting her head(ask me Sunday to open it up, but it was maxed).  I order, assure a delivery date for today & get weather.(snow here in the West, not nuts here...that's relative)  Package is here(20 minute drive for me to pick up) at 6:01 this morning (arrival scan).  Before 12:00, when not on truck for delivery, I inquired as if I could just come to pick up, they tell me "still in transit".  I say, no, it's 20 miles from my house and I'll grab it, they say no "it's stilll in transit". Well, 15 hours later it's still in transit and the Bug gets on a plane tomorrow to play...and UPS didn't provide a service I paid for, nor did you attempt to work with me to go half way.

Did you get it? UPS is normally pretty good with my packages, but that's in a town of 60K less than an hour out of NYC.

I've always had trouble with UPS for delivery to my home. Also, in Canada they add brokerage fees etc., so we try to use USPS / Canada Post as much as possible.

@ktang ALWAYS do a new hollow at a time where you can get used to it. Stick and puck (i.e. no scrimmages) and public sessions are when I try a new hollow. If the game isn't too important, then you could just try it then. But if it were me- I wouldn't do a new hollow in a game until you have a public session and a pickup or two under your belt.

I needed to sharpen the skates anyway, so I "went for it" and got a 5/8" hollow (was at 1 1/4" before). Better backside recovery, got used to skating and stopping on it during warmups. I think the sharper hollow helped during the game itself.

I will probably go for 1/2" next time.

I just ordered some Bauer one95 goalie skates (used) on Kijiji. Hoping that they will fit better than what I'm using at the moment, Vapor XIX.

And, I have to get and try some foaming  motorcycle helmet cleaner.

My first two pairs of skates were 1997 Bauer Supreme 3000's and 5000's. I can't remember too well what the tongues were like--did they still have the channel then or was it prior to that?

I think the Bauer Supreme 3000's had the "Formfit Plus" tongue with the channel.

The tongue was 3 main pieces of felt in order to have the channel.

Have you tried a Forsberg pad? I developed sudden lace bite a while back and discovered that the irritation was because of how much the tendons bulge out when they contract to lift the foot, which happens when you forward flex in a skate. I just cut a 3/8" channel down the middle of the heel of an old footbed I wasn't using anymore and it was perfect. I couldn't tell it was in there, but the pain was completely gone. I have no idea why tongues aren't built with that channel to begin with, allowing the tendons to flex without having to face the majority of the brunt of the pressure from the laces over the tongue. If the volume is borderline for you, maybe altering the tongue would be sufficient for you to continue in your VH's.

Here's a link to pictures of the pad I made, in case you want to try something similar: http://s284.photobucket.com/user/prm776/library/?sort=3&page=1

Bauer used to have the channel built into their tongues in the '90s.

Another stinker. Lost 7-2. Other goalie had a 7-0 shutout going until the last 5 mins or so. I just don't know what to do at this point. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different, they just all seem to go in. I've had 5-6 goals in the last two games that went between the torso and the arm. I'm starting to wonder if my confidence has gone so far into the crapper that instead of squeezing like I should be, I'm leaving my hands out trying to be as wide as I can to try to stop a deflection that never ends up happening. I don't know. It used to be that shots from the point made me happy because they meant easy saves. Now, I have no idea anymore.

The first goal... well... that sucked. Shouldn't have turned my head. I was fine, I just needed a minute to let the ringing go down a bit.

Are you at the edge of your crease?

ktang, do you know if it is different than the BC10?    The Base curve database on their website doesn't seem to list all of the curves available.

I have the BC10, and it seems similar to the old P08, but with a slightly higher lie and no curve whatsoever in the heel.  If Base has a P08 clone, I would likely give it a shot.

I have a lie 5 BC10, and it is similar to my Harrow Pattern 10.

Same lie. but the BC10 is 1/2 inch shorter and not quite as lofted. The toe curve starts at the same place.

I thought the Harrow Pattern 10 was a P08 clone, but maybe I'm wrong.

To understand my current hell, imagine you're a plumber. A very good plumber. A fairly well respected plumber. Now imagine your plumber boss puts you in a room full of electricians, whom he has of course told that you are a master electrician, and you're asked to diagnose why the breaker panel they just installed isn't working correctly.

Now imagine that your plumber boss suggests that you saying "I don't know how to do that" means you're not trying hard enough, and that you just need to "get involved" and "provide input".

Now to finish it off, imagine you can't let the electricians know you don't even know what color wire does what for fear that they'll catch on, and your boss will lose the money that apparently matters more than your reputation or sanity.

It happens too much in tech. Could you use your reputation to be your own "plumber", or do you need your boss' company to line up the jobs? Are they install, initialization, and set-to-work type jobs?

  8. I read that Lundquist uses cotton gloves for sweat management. I was thinking that they would be much thinner than batting gloves to give him better feel, though.

I'm a beginning goalie, so I think I should n't be worrying about feel. Also, after all that effort cleaning out the 2nd-hand trapper, I want to keep the sweat off it.

The batting glove gives me better grip and fills the voids in the trapper fingers.

Besides Lundquist, do any other goalies use the inside gloves?

Can't wait to try this out on the ice!

  9. I don't see why not. If it fits and helps you feel more comfortable with it. Is it for padding? Look at some photos from goalies in the 80s/90s - half of them have some kind of gloves on under both their blocker and trapper.

It is for snugness, grip, and to keep sweat away from the leather. I used to wear a glove inside my baseball glove, so it's what I'm used to.

I imagine that it might hinder puck handling and passing.

I won't be sticking my index finger out, though.

  10. I wasn't sure if you ever did clinics or sticktime/stick & puck. That is where I work on a lot of stuff.

Nope, no real time for either.

Do them at the beginning of warmups, after stretching in the dressing room? A few reps per game, and eventually you'll get to Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 reps! That's what I'm telling myself, anyways.

  11. I've been in a pair of Mako 2's for three weeks now. Got fitted for the right size and had them baked at a LHS per the instructions on the box (10 minutes). The skates feel great when seated but my arches are killing me while standing, walking and skating. I tried spot heating the arches with a heat gun but unfortunately the part that I need to press out is the actual carbon composite boot form, not the heat moldable quarter. I called Easton and they confirmed that the carbon composite monocoque boot form is not heat moldable.

I've also tried Yellow Superfeet, which I use in my Supreme One100's. They take up way too much volume and regardless they don't alleviate the arch pain.

I love everything else about the skates. I had no problems adapting to the forward pitch coming from LS 2 holders. But with the arch pain I can only skate for about 20-30 minutes before the pain is unbearable.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and been able to overcome it?

Do you have an accessory navicular bone? If so, you could cut a 3-inch / 7 cm foam doughnut, and that might distribute the pressure.
