Strange ebay issue

Recommended Posts

Ok so here's the deal. I put my cell phone on ebay yesterday, because I just bought a new one. I put it up for a very fair Buy It Now since I was just looking for the difference I needed. Here's the site for the auction:

Sony Ericsson K700i

So anyways, I woke up this morning and checked my e-mail to see that the auction had ended since someone used the buy it now. This bidder had 0 feedback, and I usually request that they e-mail me first before bidding, but in this case I didn't do that. So the buyer e-mailed me as well with this e-mail:

Hello,

Compliments. I am Monica Bowman from alabama and i would like to inform of my interest in buying your item. I am on a business trip to holland an my daughter is having her birthday nextweek in nigeria, i have decided to buy your item for her as the birthday gift since i am present out of the state. There is notime for me going around so i have to get her the birthday gift in an online market and that is why i have just registered with ebay and after purchasing your item, ebay provided with your e-mail address an that's why i am contacting you about. I will be making the payment through auction payments (money order). I have my daughter's address below as i will be takingcare of the shipment myself without you paying for any fees, through fedex as requested by my daughter for some reasons as it's secure and safe. So, i want you to send me your name and address so that i can be able to make the payment ontime because it is urgent.

NAME........... ELLA BOWMAN

ADDRESS........ 15, MOJISOLA STREET

CITY.......... . IFAKO AGEGE

STATE.......... LAGOS

ZIPCODE........ 23401

COUNT RY... .. NIGERIA

PHONE NUMBER.....08038237324

Firstly, I dont understand what she means by her payment or how she wants it to be shipped, so I e-mailed her but haven't got a reply yet. It seems as though she wants me to ship it to the Netherlands, which is fine. The thing that got me worried is the e-mail I just received, titled:

FIB NOTICE: Suspicious Bidder Alert - item #5769663094, Bidder monica8199

Unfortunately the entire e-mail is in dutch and I can't understand a word. I e-mailed back asking for it in english. Also, the buyer is "not a registered user" any longer. I assume that this entire auction is down the drain. What do you guys think I should do now? I'm not sure if I should relist the item incase I do receive payment.

Sounds like a scam. The next thing you'll get is a get rich quick scam from Nigeria. All you have to do is send them some money to show that you are legit and you will never hear from them again.

Anytime an email demands you to do something *URGENT* is usually a scam. They want you to make this decision quickly without thinking about it. Besides, she can always buy a cellphone in Netherlands or Nigeria. It would take a while to ship it there and wait for the money order so what is the point and she would be paying a lot extra to convert it to US money order. That's just my opinion.

plus she is already delisted.

In reading her email, English doesn't appear to be her first language. That would make me doubt she lives in Alabama.

Those near there would question that about anyone from Alabama.
