I'd say closer to a half size down. Like any skate, you really should try them on to determine your size.

how do mission inline skate sizes translate into their ice skate sizes? i have a pair of RM inlines, circa '03 (?) in 9D...would i be safe in buying the same size?

For me, my s500's fit about half a size down. I'm a 10.5 sneaker, and I wear a 10ee s500. It fits like a glove.
